What are you listening to?

A Dutch classic, probably of local fame,

The first ‘major’ band I ever saw live (back in 1979 for their ‘Fear of Music’ tour’) when I was a young one. That helped to shape my love for somewhat strange taste in music. This is a later show, but really good

Many of my friends in those days played guitar and when this came out they couldn’t stop talking about it. 'T never came off the record player. Imho still a great party album.

The two first VH albums are still a milestone in rock, IMHO. Just kick-ass albums that still hold up, and of course Eddie… what can you say.

Wow, remind me of my teens…

I have been listening to this masterful album over the past week:

It is just an unbelievably haunting album, partly because of the music but mostly because of the context; the artist discovered a “tape of love letters from an unknown woman to her distant lover”. This just touches a place within me, and this is certainly a place to share it in the hope that some of you enjoy it as much as me too!

EDIT: It turns out I already mentioned this back in September, post #429. It is still just as good though! By way of apology, here are some more albums, eclectic in their mix, that I’ve been listening too

Ever heard the 2 live crew rap that samples the “aint talkin bout love” riff?

The first 2 VH are good 4 sure.

Hah, not the most elegant lyrics.

Thanks for mentioning it again then, as I wasn’t here yet at that time. Haunting indeed.

It’s that time of the year again, tomorrow is “oliebollen day”, the day after the new years concerts, for me I probably start with Le Réveil des oiseaux.

So, not the end of time, just another year,

I found this album today by Barker after seeing him perform on ‘against the clock’. Got to love his plate reverb setup with solenoids.

Build something similar a few years ago for a friend. Instead of a plate I used a big spiral of thin stainless 2" tubing (from a chiller). Sound progresses in strange ways through that thing and it is springy. Used loadcells and crystal pickups to pick up sound and coneless loudspeakers and a steppermotor as exciters. Solenoids is a good one.
