Centralics is now available! VCV Library - Voxglitch Centralics

I just want to acknowledge that this module is very “opinionated”. It’s not a module where you can meticulously place notes, gates, and have deep control over the exact output. If you’re like me and prefer a more algorithmic and experimental approach to composition, I’m hoping that you’ll love it.

In addition, you should be aware:

  1. Changing clock division on the fly creates audio pops in the triple delay effect stage. In order to provide safe modulation of the delays, the module provides “morph x” and “morph y” controls that don’t cause any clipping or popping.
  2. The DRIVE effect is rather nasty and fuzzy. (Maybe not a negative, but worth noting.)
  3. My demo videos used a version of the 303 style filter that had self-oscillation issues. These have been fixed, but the nature of the audio might be slightly different because of the updated code. I personally didn’t notice any difference. If anything, I think it sounds better.
  4. The entire module goes against the concept of modular synthesis. It’s a “bundling” of concepts, and as a result, it doesn’t have the flexibility of a purely modular patch. I’m hoping that you’ll love it regardless.

I’ve added the ability to create custom patterns (via external json file) that override the factory arpeggiator patterns. These user-defined patterns are configured using note offsets and do not support micro-tonal tuning at the moment. This isn’t documented yet, but I’ll try to update the documentation soon.

As always, I sincerely hope that people enjoy it.

Even if it’s just 6 operators of sine waves it’s still a big monster, lots of possibilities and timbres…

Is it possible to send a license for Centralics please? I wish to support with patchseq and the groovebox and money is a bit tight as I save more this year, can’t wait to hear more from the released build of this acid trip

I have bought all of your premium models and very much enjoy them. If this ever gets CV and Gate out I will buy this one, too.

Unfortunately most known DX7 timbres are from… factory presets, such BASS 1 or E.PIANO 1. But this synthesizer, and other 6-operator DX-family, like DX1 and D5 (both are “2x DX7”) have so more timbre capabilities than factory presets! Same about 8-operator 88-algorithm actual Yamaha MODX M / Montage lines.

Also, 32 algorithms aren’t a bottleneck, anyway, because they’re able to cover all styles of timbre! On DX7, the bottleneck is… the infamous user-interface, using ton of submenus over a ridiculous sized LCD (without backlit) display.

During 90s, I’ve kept mine (bought as new) during… three months, sounds are fantastic, but sound design was a true nightmare! It was replaced by a Roland D-50 with its PG-1000.

This is the synthesizer of my dream. But I’ll must sell a ton of OhmerPrems licenses, otherwise my banker doesn’t agree. 3300 euros.

Using waveforms other than sines is appropriate for 4-operator synthesizers, but it’s a easy way to cheat because the synth becomes PM/subtractive hybrid synthesizer (with filters).

Plenty of options to send modulation too, I’ll probably have it by July or Black Friday, whichever doesn’t hurt my wallet as much

I agree, including… breathe controller.

My (WIP) 6OP-DX module also embeds 8 CV inputs (any CV may be routed to once/multiple synth parameters).

About generic common breath controller, in general it sends a MIDI CC. So by using MIDI CC→CV module, it will be easy to assign the concerned CV (aka the breathe controller, BTW) to any synth parameters of your choice (except parameters handled by a momentary button, and MASTER level, they’re not CV assignable).

Perhaps it will better - if required - to continue our exchanges in private, or in the 6OP-DX development blog, because this place is dedicated to Voxglitch Community Feedback, in order to respect Bret (and his fantastic stuff).

I don’t mind a bit of cross pollination. :clinking_beer_mugs: It’s probably a good idea, just so your other users don’t have to jump around to see all of the important info.

Hi Bret, except if I’m wrong (I’m 62, Alzeimer isn’t too far ), I’ve seen somewhere (probably video) a grey module, but without name over it. I can’t find it (either free or Premium) from VCV, I don’t know what the module is, but possibility a kind of groovebox.

Can you tell me what module is it? Available?

Sorry I always wrote “Brett” instead of… “Bret” !

I’m open minded to providing licenses for low income individuals, but I might ask that we keep those requests in direct messages. I don’t want to start a feeding frenzy. And I may also ask for trade of some sort. You know, first born child. A few sheep. Poetry about my toes. That kind of thing.

The Groovebox has gone through a few panel updates, so you might be thinking of the original Groovebox module?

This module:

Ah, that’s the Groovebox Advanced! I’m working on it right now. (It took a temporary back seat in my development queue for a little while.)

That specific screen is new. It’s the pattern browser. You can use it to quickly load a sequencer pattern to a track.

Ah ok, thanks for these precisions, Bret!

As stupid guy I’m sometimes, I don’t have noticed the Groovebox Advanced is clearly indicated in the title of your video!

No worries! This might help. It might look a bit complex from this angle, but similar to Perl (I’m old too), I want to “make the easy stuff easy, and the hard stuff possible”. To actually create a beat is going to be trivial. But as they say, that will be the tip of the iceberg.

As I’ve (a bit) understood, but I don’t have seen global effects, mutes, velocity, however.

Fantastic. When available, if $10 max, be sure I’ll buy it!

I have some bad news for you: It’s likely going to be $30.

Too bad, not in my budget (I’m unemployed since years, not yet retired, living with 550 euros/month… you’ll can imagine). So I’ll must save money - and I’ll watch different videos to be sure I’ll really need it before buying. Hope you’ll understand.

congrats on the release! the example videos didn’t quite give a handle if the algorithm actually generates proper acid bass lines - is there a longer video planned that shows a variety of patterns generated and the influence the parameters have on them? I do fancy algorithms as well - but I lack imagination on what use they’d be for basslines. & have you considered adding a v/Oct input so it could also be used as an instant 303 source with algo’s powering velocity and resonance?

Cheers!

Check out this new release from @trickyflemming “where PatchSeq was the only instrument.” Its cool!
