The design is perfect. All the extra colors make the design look like a child’s toy. I prefer a design that looks clean and professional, like Venom’s modules.
I love feedback, but I’m less likely to react to design feedback because it’s so subjective. Please don’t feel slighted if I don’t always take it. I know that my designs aren’t always perfect, so please bear with me.
Absolutely, you have a great aesthetic already and need to go where the muse leads.
I just think how useful the buttons that light on select in groovebox and the vintage style lcds add to its vibe and ease of use. This one has some movement in the filter fader lights, but the evolution is not indicated anywhere, it just seems a sequencer filter loop is displayed but note info is not apparent. Love your work, take this as it comes from a fan and not a critic.
Version #1 of Centralics is all wrapped up! The sub oscillator really gives it a heavy punch, and the drive is beautiful:
And after taking about an hour break, I’m back behind the code. Ha ha ha. I added a new feature to Groovebox Advanced: Preset patterns. Totally optional of course, but there if you want it. When selecting a pattern, it’s copied into the track, but the pattern selection window stays open in case you want to preview different patterns as your song continues to play.
I have some really interesting ideas about patterns that I’m going to experiment with. I’ll keep you posted.
Quick notes about the new Centralics module. It’s going to be a little bit more expensive: $20. I may be raising pricing on the Impulse module a bit too, but I’ll likely give it a slightly newer front panel first. I do intend to create a dark panel variant for Centralics, but I want to get it out the door.
Here’s the Centralics user manual.
Is it possible to do microtonal tuning on Centralics? I’ve wanted microtonal scale file 303 with the various 303 plugins/modules for awhile. Maybe you could add the feature.
I’m not very well versed on microtonal tuning. At the moment, it doesn’t support that. How would I add that?… would they be different quantization options in the quantizer?
It would work fine to allow loading of scala files into Centralics to add the feature of microtonal. Of course some scala micro tuning scales don’t use the standard twelve tones. Maybe you can research and add the feature. I’m buying your 303 anyhow, but…
Loading scales is a great idea. In addition, allowing users to load in patterns as well seems like a great “power user” feature. I’ve already submitted the module to VCV Rack to put in the marketplace, but I’ll do my best to add these features for you.
Sounds great! Just test various scales to make sure it works when you add the code and well have a unique new feature amongst 303 emulators. Oh also maybe you could add features in the world of dirive/distortion more similar to Arturia’s Acid plugin distortions. Various selections of drive/distortions like on Acid. Or maybe similar to the distortions on D16 Groups Phoscyon. Like a panel with various drive distortion styles to choose from.
it would also be nice to have additional cv/gate inputs that allow for sequencing Centralics via external pattern sequencer modules and MIDI in.
Wow! You really know your 303 emulators! Give me a little bit of time to learn more about what you are suggesting. I’ve already submitted the module to VCV Rack, so I’ll be hesitant to make major updates until is reaches the masses. I’m totally open minded about offering different drive/distortion algorithms. That would be an easy addition as a right-click context menu option. I have noticed that my current “drive” effects can be a bit fuzzy, especially with the use of the sub oscillator.
Again, give me a moment to think about your feedback. I’m still in “student mode”.
Well, there’s plenty of distortions available in my arsenal like Beam and Osmium which I got as part of Black Friday last year… well technically I only added the new module to Beam cause I had the bundle since June… I don’t have as many options in my MacBook but there’s still plenty of options… we just need to have Centralics with cv/gate out to sequence another instrument at least. Glad to see you make improvements in performance!
What a monster! This will most definitely be in the spotlight more since it’s more advanced and has so many timbres… just needs a bunch of additional waveforms like TX waves at least
I totally agree! but the “pros” : all synth parameters are in front of your eyes! (DX7 was a true nightmare for sound design). However I keep sines only, because the module doesn’t embed filter etc… I’d like this module near as possible of a DX7 as soon as I’ve started this very complex project. Surely a “kind of nostalgia” (I was DX7 owner, but long time ago, during 90s, I was young)… Also, by supporting TX (or any other more recent machine), they’re additional parameters than DX7 doesn’t have: as you can see, this 6OP-DX module is very huge (my previous FroeZe module is a gardner gnome. And… no more available space. So please understand I don’t want to redesign all from scratch (otherwise, I’ll develop a module who emulate the Kodamo EssenceFM or ASM Leviasynth!
→no mock). Despite your idea isn’t stupid, obviously!
As I’ve replied to Brett above, at the moment it’s a “pre-release Alpha”, it doesn’t output sound because I focus all of my stuff around DX parameters and… their optimisations (some of them are logarithmic, such LEVELs) and also the touchscreen features (pull-down menus, “Preferences”, CV matrix “page”, and many other things behind the synthesizer, in fact the most complex parts of the module).
Every night I publish a “pre-release Alpha Nightly Build” on OhmerPrems releases on GitHub. However, here’s the Voxglitch (Brett’s) page, BTW I don’t want to polluate (spam) here! ![]()
Hi Brett, this is an idea about a - possible - future Voxglitch module. In the spirit of Hazumi, why not a kind of “Snake” game (on antique Nokia 3310), who generates modulations and/or triggers/gates on particular events (hit a wall, eat a pill, eat his tail, and so on). The snake may be X/Y-controlled, otherwise moves may are random.
Of course it’s just an idea (not a “need”, anyway)
Perhaps a stupid idea… ![]()
Hi Dominique,
I’ve had two ideas that are similar to this, rattling around in my head. One is a Tenori-On style module with a healthy number of built in sounds. (Perhaps that’s a bit less exciting.) The other is more similar to the Orca style sequencer. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7X3v_CvNY0)
The Tenori On idea could definitely have a “snake” mode!
@BrettBrett, I’ve seen this afternoon a video about ORCA (in fact, by chance), but to be honest, I don’t have understood the concept. I’ll watch YT tutorials to understand…
Don’t worry. So waiting about your projects (nothing urgen@Ben).
@Ben, yep a similar concept, modern of course, not especially the 3310’s Snake… ![]()
Speaking about ORCA…
Ah, very nice!!
