Hello folks. I joining this community because Iām tired of falling in and out of being able to use VCV Rack simply because I chose a rolling release distribution of Linux. Expect some support posts as soon as I can find where that is.
I am also here because I hope to learn to program by making modules for our favorite skeuomorphic eurorack daw.
Iām a transgender disabled veteran from Norman, Oklahoma, USA that lives with CFS/Me. Iām currently between both academia and employment (I hope to go to seminary and havenāt worked in two years due to illness) so Iāve turned what energy I have right now to making masks and entertaining myself with digital creations ā music, vector graphics, writing.
Iāve been using VCV Rack for some time now, I dislike the new module library on the website only because it is hard to figure out what items Iām not subscribed to at a glance that the old one did. But I also like it because if I wanted to I could be selective of the individual modules out of a pack and itās easier to preview what theyāll look like before download.
I have a brilliant I idea for a module pack that is casino themed (and I have the graphic design chops to do that part of it.)
If anyone has suggestions for things I should see on this forum, feel free to pm me.
Working from home during the lockdown, a friend suggested I look into another (competitor) modular synth setup as they were having a free download offer. I quickly realised that VCV Rack is far superior in every way
So Iām a complete novice at the modular synth thing although I have been a musician most of my adult life (well⦠a bass player). Arthritis stopped me playing in bands so while I have time on my hands I am learning about VCV Rack and working my way through all the tutorial videos from @Omri_Cohen and @KarateSnoopy, and recreating builds from @Synthikat, @deep.ambient.drone, Amy Naylor and others.
I am mostly interested in recreating sounds of real instruments using basic modules, and building rack versions of classic synths like the minimoog. I love the generative ambient stuff too and I am also learning about sequencing by recreating things like Tubular Bells (I got the main theme, but itās a big project) and I Feel Love by Giorgio Moroder.
My main musical interest is Jazz (all eras) so I am investigating some form of āimprovisationā using random triggers within a key structure, backed by complex rhythms in weird time signatures.
I am moving towards creating my own music but I know I have a LOT to learn yet. Loving it so far ā¦
Hi,
I guess I just made my first post on this forum after peeking in the background since forever, so I thought it would be appropriate to say hi in this topic too.
I am emma, dutch, forever happy making music and sound. I forgot how I stumbled upon vcv but have been around since before 0.6. I enjoy going into live streams, maybe weāve met there before. Probably I wonāt be posting a lot, Iām more of a wallflower in general, I enjoy reading more than actually writing. Gave up on the FB.
Ignore the noise, make signal I guess altho vcv does make beautiful noises sometimes.
One thing I do feel strongly about is wishing more girls and women getting involved in this geeky niche of (virtual) modular⦠go girls! we rock⦠letās make some signal \o/
Other than that I feel happy to feeling a belonging to this community and looking forward to where this wonderful tool can bring us all. Feel free to ask anything of I forgot anything, would love to hear from anyone⦠maybe collaborations?
With kind regards,
Emma
Welcome @emma. I hope you will participate in the discussions and show us your musical voice. We need to hear from many more women and for them to display their musical expressions.
In fact I may did it the wrong way and shared a post in Music & Patches before introducing myself.
Iām from Paris and during this lockdown Iāve been digging into old music videos. As a former āelectronicienā I found VCV & modular concept very cool, playing with sines and triangles, making āFourrierās transformationā, random and boolean arithmetic very fun. Sculpting the sound from the basis, a sine, a sign
I did use trackers and samplers in my younger years, all around techno and beats and never switch to a DAW.
I enjoy discovering how you make this tool sing and dance and astonished by the quality of the modules people developed here.
I like testing and experimenting more than composing, Iām not a musician but in randomness we can find lot of harmony.
I know you havenāt wanted to participate in the larger FB group but would love to see and share any of your experiments with cello or other physical instruments if that would suit you.
Hi, Iām Isabel! I graduated from MIT last year with a double major in chemical engineering and music. Iām a software engineer now, starting a masterās in CS in the fall part time.
For most of my life Iāve been a classical horn player with some piano in there too. In 2018 I found that I loved mixing together algorithms, math and music to make wild and new sounds. I mess around in Ableton and MaxMSP, but VCV Rack is where I really enjoy spending my time. I am just starting my module development journey, too!
Iām also a bit of a shy one at first IRL, but itās much easier to talk to people with similar interests online. Nice to be here with you all.
Hi! Iām annima. hereās a great place for those who like to create interesting sounds. Iām excited to start exploring this wonderful world. Iāve composed some songs using macbookpro, logic pro, arturia keystep, po33, digitone⦠Iāve always wanted to set up my rack. now is the right time. I have synth but I would like to build a rack where I can explore rhythms, beats, bass, filters, trigs, random⦠so, as a newbie in this field, I would like some help. could someone here give me some tips about which machines I could add to my setup already mentioned before? I thank you since now offering a great plague hug. I basically want to compose, techno, house, ambient, minimalā¦
