This album…I cannot judge it

I assume that…A sort of shame😉

My experience in the community forums is much more pleasant when I block repeat spammers who are incomprehensible and offensive. It is sad we have to put up with a few bad apples, or bots.

Me too. I usually send a message to https://community.vcvrack.com/g/moderators so they can see the output from a person and suspend the worst offenders, and the rest go in my blocklist.

There is an interesting mystery here. There appears to be several user accounts that were created earlier this year. They seem to follow a similar pattern of changing their user name often, spamming topics like this topic, posting incomprehensible comments, being offensive and generally more divisive than helpful.

Are these bots? Is there an A.I. bot research project going on?

I have been creating chat bots and A.I. tools for about 40 years now, so perhaps that is my hammer and everything looks like a nail, but these accounts sure remind me of my metaverse autonomous greeter chatbot from 15 years ago. But then, I have been known to see patterns where none exist

I just hope I do not unfairly judge a real human community member who has limited English communications skills.

I don’t think you’re being paranoid at all, I think the way they post things outside of context and accompanying text normally doesn’t fit the photo/video/whatever does make it look like some kind of bot operation, but of course the big question here is why?

My guess is they have used a system to target similarly set up forums in order to create a big bunch of fake bot users that can tap into at some future time for marketing or propaganda purposes, but I’ve no idea. With the state of the world as it is I would love it if these were just a way to try and sell viagra or cialis or bitcoin rather than something with more sinister intent.

Several states run divisions based around electronic and, by extension social media, warfare and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they had involvement in some of this stuff, maybe not here but who knows?

One important thing to clarify here is that people commonly misunderstand the word ‘bot’, it isn’t always some AI robot purely running on code and rules that generates post text algorithmically, it can just as easily be a bunch of vectors, foot in the doors for real people to propagate posts across a number of forums at once. A lot of the political ones we’ve seen over the last few years follow this methodology.

In terms of return on investment think how much cheaper it must be to flood forums with posts that attempt to sway people to think something and support an ideological position than it is to run real agents in those countries to enact changes.
