Oh wow, that was amazing! Just gained a whole new appreciation of why “In C” is so groundbreaking and different. I wonder if anyone has even attempted to evolve on this method, or even write a new piece, since Terry Riley did it. Great stuff!

yeah, I was also mesmerized, and the whole bit of how it was put together was very enlightening

What fun! As mentioned elsewhere, I was introduced to Terry Riley’s music in about 1972 when I was a physics and math undergraduate student at my university. I was very influenced by this. I can hear Riley’s influence in my sequenced and meta-sequenced minimalist music. I built my first modular synth in 1973 but I do not know if I was inspired to do that by Riley’s electronic music or not. I do remember being inspired by Wendy Carlos, in particular the soundtrack to the 1971-72 “A Clockwork Orange”…

It is fun to walk down memory lane.

I think “bang on a can” repleased a cover of it a while back that’s supposed to be pretty good.

I looked for this album for years - it was finally released on CD in 1996 or so. But you can hear the gap between the sides indicating it was ripped from an LP.

Saw him only once, in the early 80’s in NYC with the Chronos Quartet.

I love the Persian Surgery album, it’s incredible if you’re into minimalism.

Porcupine Tree, live in London. Great performance!

Really nice sound.

First thing that struck me was it reminded me to order some fresh strings, I’ve let the ones on my Martin go deader than Nick Drake’s. Second thing was that really cute mic attached to the guitar. Have always gone with acoustics with inbuilt mics rather than needing to use an external mic as I live off a busy road and also I like to move around a bit and that formal way of playing with static mics never appealed, but that little mic looks a game-changer for bringing body sounds and hand percussion into a mix.

And all that on a travel guitar, the man is magic. And yes, that mic is made for that task.

After watching Warren’s part 2 of his amazing King Crimson documentary, I just have to share this excruciatingly beautiful ballad by them - “One Time”. It just sends shivers down my spine every time, and made me realize (again) that Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew are one of the unbeatable powerduos of all time.

Here is a Terry Riley in C with the master himself from the Boiler Room, Amsterdam. This is over an hour long, so strap in and be amazed again
