Hey Bret, Mutes which sync to timing are useful, can always use a sample and hold, but pattern synced mutes, 1bar,1/4,1/8,1/16th, etc is a very useful feature.

I have a new “surprise” module coming soon: Centralics.

I think it will fit right in with my other Voxglitch Devices and will likely cost $10.

For those who are curious about the technical aspects:

  1. It’s monophonic
  2. The “guts” consist of:
  • A 303 style oscillator with accent and glide
  • Three pattern generators and one traditional sequencer. The pattern generators have 128 built-in patterns with variable length, low, and high controls.
  • A scale quanizer
  • Three separate clock synced delays that can be crossfaded
  • Internal or external clock with up to 32x multiplication
  • CV control over almost everything. All of the front panel controls will be stylized VCV Rack widgets. (In other words, no sneaky custom UI that doesn’t respond well to MIDI or play well with others.)
  • A bunch of little features, like optional sample+hold on the melody pattern generator, clock division on the delay clocks, and probably more as it comes along.

Is this simply a patch baked into a module?? Yep. Pretty much. But, I’m super excited about it!

What a surprise! Technically it needs some distortion, gotta get more flavors of acid out of it! I would like to try it out when it comes if you don’t mind sending a license for Centralics to shawnbortree19@gmail.com please! Hopefully it has outputs for when you can just use the acidic sequencer with a different oscillator or something! Don’t worry, I will eventually buy the big modules soon, it’s just not the time yet unless I’m given permission and my wallet gets fully recovered from last Black Friday… can’t wait to see it more in action

Ah! It’s not ready for beta testing yet, but you have a great point about the distortion. I mean… I suppose you could add that as an after effect too. But if there’s space, I’ll build some in. I’ll look into providing waveforms beyond the classics.

Don’t forget cv/gate out to use the sequencer with other instruments!

perhaps a separate clock for every pattern generator.

or phasor controls.

could be interesting.

Have bought PatchSeq today, for $10 (8.86 euros), sincerely this price is a gift!

I’m discovering it, offered possibilites by this module looks incredible.

In French language, ce module est une tuerie (this module is a game-changer).

I think you meant game-changer just to help with translation, as things don’t always translate word for word….

Thank you very much for the correction, appreciated!

I’ve changed “game-killer” to “game-changer” in my previous post, BTW.

That’s so amazing to hear, @Ohmer ! I must admit that there are some gremlins (bugs) hiding in that module, and I do hope to release an update soon that addresses them.

Hi everyone!

I’m working on rack modules daily, but it’s quite time consuming. At the moment, I’m working on the front panel for Centralics, which is very roughly influenced by the tb-303 and mc-202 Roland hardware. I’m also borrowing visual design ideas from D16 Group Audio Software, which are amazing.

This design is likely to change, so please hold back on offering advice, because I know it’s not close to complete.

Like D16’s Phoscyon… Look very nice, I love your pots (with a shadow below) black switches are cool, too. I don’t like the fader (too thin, in my opinion, of course).

Indeed! I totally agree. Those are essentially the “stock” vcv rack sliders, with the black background removed.

I’m going to widen the fader … heads? I don’t know what to call them… just a tad since I don’t want that section to grow wider, otherwise it makes the whole module wider, and it’s already quite wide.

This module will likely have side panels, which is why there’s some extra padding on the left and right.

One thing that I’ve noticed when working on front panel designs: Until things comes together completely, it feels the design is a failure. Now I’m not saying that some of my front panel designs aren’t failures :see_no_evil_monkey:, but the finishing touches mean a lot! I hope that this design evolves successfully.

The sliding part of the fader is typically called the “thumb” (just like a scrollbar).

If I were to critique it in its current form:

  1. Too many scratches.
  2. The clock input and the L/R outputs are inconsistent with the rest of the design
  3. The typography is horrible
  4. It’s missing the header (module name and manufacturer)
  5. The side panels are missing
  6. The screws look bad
  7. The switches are still the VCV Rack defaults
  8. The columns in the pattern generators sections have inconsistent spacing
  9. The slider thumbs are too thin
  10. The second group of panel controls looks a bit crowded
  11. The distance vertical between the knob labels and knobs is inconsistent
  12. Some of the control groups have headers (like “Synced Delays”) while others do not
  13. The “clock multiply” label should be called “clock multiplier”
  14. knob typography is not properly center aligned with the knob underneath in many place
  15. knobs are missing knob scales

Just saving you the time. Ha ha ha.

Yeah, instead of random scratches it needs grime around the knobs and ports where the oils from fingers catch dust and oxidize.

I like the LCDs.

I’d like to hear more the about the process and tools you use for making the panels.

I totally agree, Paul!

In fact, perhaps… both of them (random scratches + grime).

Another nice panel Bret! You are doing great work

It has a REPLAY – Vongon feel about it

At least since I’m not buying the module yet, it gives time for any bugs to be squashed so it comes to me more stable and ready to go… I do plan on it soon but I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re waiting for either the middle of July or Black Friday… maybe the former so you receive more of a donation and I get it sooner? Plus it gives time for other people to explore this universe and upload audio demos to YouTube and I can get charged up for it

Looking good! Lots of space to fill the panel with all sorts of goodies, it still needs distortion effects but I’m sure you have enough space to tinker with the layout and fit another classic acid feature in… maybe there’s room to put in an internal modulator like another envelope or lfo?
