noodling 'round with Ahornberg Tape Recorder

@Ahornberg: Thank you for your great modules!

I just noticed today that the Tape Recorder does not work with VCV’s native “Save selection as” process – the module is missing upon re-import. In contrast, Tape Inspector imports as expected.

However, importing via STRIP++ (Expandable sequential switch - #8 by Alphagem-O) works fine for both modules.

Thanks! I soon will take a closer look at this issue.

I fixed the bug. So now you can save Tape Recoder modules inside of selections, but you can’t save the recorded audio inside of a selection. Actuallly recorded audio can only be saved inside patches and presets.

didn’t know that this exists :astonished:

Hello there, isn’t the ‘Memory’ modules by Stochastic aiming to do the very same thing as this in VCV? He is developing a tape scrubber style update for those modules. Always good to have a virtual version for free as well. The hardware modules do sound good though but won’t be cheap? £200 a piece?

No, not really. It’s simply a tape loop. In Memory, there are independent moveable heads for reading and writing audio. So Memory can do a lot more than with just a tape loop. And yes, these hardware modules are pretty expensive :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I have a created a similar effect with a Walkman, Harmonizer Pedal, EHX Mini Canyon and a Chorus delay pedal. Just tweaked the Harmonizer knobs to get a pitch shifter fx. I’m sure others have done this in the past but I like it. There is audio, I’ll upload that to Soundcloud tomorrow. Thanks for all your great works. Much appreciated. Just realised I never put the track onto Soundcloud, whoops.

The scrubbing update is out, by the way (version 2.0.15).

In tape machines, the heads (largely) stay in place and the tape moves, but for a Memory ensemble, the “tape” is stationary and the heads move around it in a fairly unlimited way. This is so not how we imagine tape machines that I deliberately avoided the use of the term “tape” in my documentation and naming.
