An important part of the guidelines that avoids any and all disputes: without permission from its owner
Care to share the brand name? No thank you not the next wave!
Fair enough Actually I think I’d have got creative to drum up some publicity for manufacturer of said keyboards, a nice high profile bonfire of their kit perhaps, cheaper than lawyers. I have no time for companies that threaten their customers over trivial stuff like that.
I don’t really see the illegality of changing a skin and posting a video on the internet of it. Me printing a picture of a Fundamental module and doodling on it, then showing my friends and family, surely can’t be compromising copyright. What possible claim could there be if I bought an MPC, defaced the AKAI logo, and played payed gigs with it in full view?
Sharing the files to make it look that way is something else and what I assume Vortico was referring to.
Takes just a few lawyers and frivolous claims to ruin any expectation of reasonable behavior for the rest of us. It’s a shame but I see the point not risking it.
FWIW I put in my docs very clear guidelines allowing people to do whatever they want with my faceplates except put my signature on their derivative modules… better be clear about the rules than leave unsaid that you’ll behave like a grown-up about copyright
Thanks for the reply! Don’t worry I won’t be posting anything I modify online.
I followed your advice and I’m modifying the .svg files in C:\Users\username\Documents\Rack\plugins-v1\Fundamental\res but nothing is changing in VCVRack still
I downloaded a pack to convert the bog audio modules to black and that dropped in and worked fine. But modifying the Fundamental or 3rd Party .svg files individually yields no results.
One more question, I see the Fundamental folder is missing the CV<->MIDI and Audio interface modules. Where are the .svg files for those located?
Modules that are part of Core are bundled with the program. On windows it will be at C:\Program Files\VCV\Rack\res\Core
Thanks Aria :- )
I tried modifying those .svgs but to no avail still. What am I missing?
I’m guessing I don’t simply replace the .svg files with dark panel versions, there must be some other file I have to edit.
EDIT:
I just figured out what I was doing wrong
I was using filters instead of simply changing the color of the block, so the color changes I thought I was making weren’t translating over to VCVRack.
One more question, where is the svg file for the VCV rack jacks? I’ve converted all the modules to dark but the jacks are still silver colored :o
Thanks to everyone who replied !
Lol, I remember the Lunachicks used to modify there Marshalls to be “Marsha”
Rack/res/ComponentLibrary
I think that every module developer should add a skin selection option called Custom. when that selected it will select the skin labelled with Custom at the end of it and then we as users can do custom the backgrounds to modules for ourselves all day long.
no, customs skins is a optional feature
Wow, what a great thread. What happened? Did something change? Is this no longer a thing?
Woweewow!!!
He just used a Sharpie ®.
That photo may be the most stunning example of “rocker not aging well” in existence.
I say this as a fat, balding, old man. But like me, Bob Smith must have a mental picture of himself similar to my own. One not particularly tied to reality.
However: I read now that he has been married to his wife, Mary Poole, for 32 years. Much credit for that kind of commitment.
Definitely the best Chronoblob alternative so far,IMO.
I have updated my NYSTHI dark theme - GitHub - spectromas/NYSTHI-Dark-Theme. Download the zip, extract to Rack/plugins-v1/NYSTHI/res_users/ and then load the NYSTHIOMETER, right click and choose this theme.
I have not done some of the newer modules as I can’t find how they are themed (the samplers for example). Others, such as Ambulance, just don’t look good and I can’t fix them as those parts are rendered from the code:
@TroubledMind Absolutely love these !
Less custom as in new skins for old modules, but custom as in potential panels for modules I’ll never get around to coding. I was just improving on these a bit yesterday. Tinkering with the system I put in place to help me with layouts. Designing some new components. Redesigning old ones. Anyone who would want to use some designs like this, I’d be happy to help. If you’re a decent coder, but not so practiced in design, I love putting these type of things together.
