Knob jumping large distances when beginning to slowly pointer drag it (macOS, standalone app)

Happens irregularly. Here it happens when I adjusted Spread (I hit undo after it jumped, that’s what I always have to do when knob adjustment goes wrong):

This 100% was not a thing when I first started using VCV about 2 years ago, I think it started after one of the updates within the last few months.

Only happens with VCV, i.e. not with ordinary drag or with other software where I drag things. Happened so far on three different laptops, so hardly a touchpad issue.

Related but not the same:

To clarify, it can happen with any knob in any module, not just the one on the repro video.

Version: VCV Rack Pro 2.6.6 macOS ARM64

It might sound crazy, but I vageuly recall a changelog entry about fixing knob behaviour on macOS in particular—it intrigued me, but I am 80% sure after that particular upgrade is when the error started. I could go back and try to reproduce it on older versions, but for now I’d just like to report the bug.

This is a high DPI screen, but I did also test it at 100% UI scale. Same issue.

Reporting it here on the forum is not enough, you should also go here :

Sure, but there’re good reasons to report it here as well. I want to see if it’s a known issue, whether there’s some workaround community can suggest in meantime, and whether it’s truly something all Mac users deal with.

Not sure if that’s the same thing. But something like that happened to me as well.

What helped me was disabling ‘Lock cursor while dragging’ in the VIEW menu from VCV.

Again, might be a different or new bug, but maybe worth a try.

I also have this knob jumping bug and tried to report it but they wanted videos and stuff that I couldn’t make because its random.

I’m on Win and I had the same issues in versions 2.6.4 and 2.6.5, but it works fine now on 2.6.6
