it can… but where’s the fun in that?
In some ways the images the AI generates remind me of the effects of the DNA mutations from the book and movie “Annihilation”, that really uncanny valley.
I once asked it to make “a happy flower”. It decided to give it teeth. So, no.
But here’s a spacefaring cat I’m quite fond of
I wonder if most people are asking it to make nightmare images so that’s what it’s been trained to do
I think this all goes back to the 2015 release of DeepDream by Google AI. All of these resemble hypnagogic images, which are surrealistic. I think we tend to interpret surrealism as nightmarish.
I had a lot of fun with DeepDream in 2015.
The nature of of it - Midjourney certainly, the algorithm and training of Dall-E seems different, more prosaic maybe? - is that it lends itself to weird, surrealistic, in a broader sense uncanny valley stuff, so you struggle with or embrace it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I mean it could be worse.
MidJourney has a new generation algorithm and new quality settings… lets see if they are any better for generating synthesizers
There is also ruDALLE Kandinsky project free to use discord bot, https://t.me/shonenkovAI it is similar to DallE.
From Dall-E
“1950’s magazine ad for steampunk synthesizer with vacuum tubes.”
I know - I’m obsessed with tubes now, after hearing this
It’s heart is a 1964 soviet military miniature tube designed for battery operation.
A schematic is available in a modwiggler thread, sk-tubeVCF by Ryan Williams link, Kroubikou SK TUBE VCFlink and a pcb is still availabe by PM(rvrv), but I’m doing my own pcb.
Five new old stock 1Ж17Б pentodes should be here any day.
tableI’ve been spending upwards of 2 hours every day working with MidJourney. I’m addicted!!
It makes me wonder – Will all of the work I’ve been putting into VCV Rack module development soon be wasted time? In 5 years, will we be able to say, “karplus strong melody with FM synthesis, with a slow hip-hop IDM beat, in the style of autechre in d minor”, and generate versions until we have something usable?
Part of me is worried about how AI is taking over everything. My day job is coding so it’s highly probable there’ll be an AI driven “The Last One” at some point.
OTOH being able to wake up one day and imagine “A new David Bowie album mostly played on the spoons” etc is kind of cool.
I’ve been hearing for many decades about how programmers will be obsolete any day now, because technology xyz can do that. I’m sure some decade that will be true. I expect to be dead by then.
which is why I referenced an application from 1981 that promised to be the last program you’d ever need.
