ahh… my all-time favorite Leonard Cohen
since more than 45 years I listen to him and his music helped me through my darkest times
his latest songs are some of his best imho:
I think I really started listening to his music only when the last album got released. I really liked it. But stopped there and didn’t go into his discography further, until the other album got released, not the Cohen’s one at all. I really liked Phil Anselmo’s En Minor project and then he dropped an album and somebody said it remind them of Cohen, so I decided to go and check. And I like it. Some songs I like a lot, some remind me of En Minor, yeah. Some - of Swans, some of Nick Cave, some… I don’t even know. He really was an influential figure…
Loved Laughing Lenny C, think I played Songs of Love and Hate to death when I was a student. Grew to find the humour in his darkness and the darkness in his humour
oh and the Jennifer Warnes covers album is great too
And now for something completely (not really) different. Czech band. The only czech band I know… I think
On the topic of Eastern European bands (no idea whether I know any Czech one):
Contemporary, Greece
A classic, Hungary
haha, I got all those soft machine records. I like the later jazzbo ones, too.
I never liked that JW album - I don’t think I held on to it for long.
Squinky Lab founder Lloyd Cole does a cover of famous blue raincoat (quite well), which ends with “sincerly LC”, which is of course his initials and well as the authors.
Same for me, the favorite piece actually. I like this version, it’s beautiful and mostly a new piece, but I do prefer Bowie’s version which is very emotional and evocative. A masterpiece by Bowie and Eno. For anyone not knowing it:
Oh I’m with you on that one. The B-side of the Low album (from Warszawa to Subterraneans) got so much playtime when I first got my hands on it
The whole concert at Ronnie Scott’s is amazing, never had the feeling this was (already) 25 years ago. RIP Beck.
During my hiatus I listened to a lot of SOMAFM radio, particularly the Synphaera channel.
From there I become interested in two artists, S1gns of L1fe and Martin Sturtzer.
Both artists also provide tutorials on ambient/drone/pad design though not necessarily using VCV Rack, but I am enjoying ‘reverse engineering’ their methods into Rack.
Saw him a few years ago. Very surprised he is still excellent live. Before tha had t ween him singe the early 80’s.
