I suspect you can get somewhere by replicating that early Roland sort of architecture. There’s gonna be saws with the high end lopped off, and you’re gonna to need chorus and decent 'verb.

I thought the Juno-6 sounded really good. Didn’t like the 60 as much…
My only direct experience with early Rolands was going into a guitar shop where a friend worked and “devaluing” the merchandise. Now if the sounds KaiRei is targeting were done on the D50, it’s gonna be a bit more a chore to be convincing. I’d still bet on a Juno + the built in chorus. I think the key is not too much top end, and a slowish subtle chorus. Rather the opposite of the Hoover with tons of annoying high end and much abuse of the chorus.
haha - “early” roland! I just sold my SH-7 about 10 years ago. didn’t get this much for it - but then again it didn’t work.

I think of early as pre-workstation and pretty much pre-sampler.
sure, I think that’s totally reasonable. I’m mostly joking, but it is worth pointing out that Roland had been making synths for about 10 years by the time they made that one.
I understand. I watched the Alex Ball thing a long while ago. What we think of as a synth has changed considerably over the time too.
Hello just joining the conversation, so what modules could be used to achieve ‘the Exile’ pad? Is it a bass sound with chorus and reverb [Plateau-my go to Reverb]? Thanks for your time.
I’d play with some saw and good LP filters. I actually find that for some things, I like the sound of a hand rolled chorus better than the canned ones.
Basically two delay stages with opposing modulation of the delays, and each mixed with the original signal. I seem to remember that the Juno did something like this. In any case, you’ve got more knobs to diddle to get the chorus just as weird as you want it.
As I use it here, that Bog Offset module is set to 0 offset and -1 gain.
Thanks for the screenshot of the Juno style chorus, but would it be possible to see the full patch. Is the patch based on the Juno synth? Much appreciated.
All things considered, I don’t like the sound of mine so much. It may be a matter of futzing around and finding the right low pass filter. Look at the front panel of the early Junos. Read them from left to right, and you should get an idea how to wire up one yourself. The exercise is worth pursuing on your own. I showed my chorus simply because that was not so straight forward unless you stumble across the article I read.
I love Devo’s first album Q. Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! It is a masterpiece. This one is somehow strangely charming … or charmingly strange.
This song was also in summer of soul, yes? I lover her version of Do What You Gotta Do.
That Lachy Dooley - I thought that was a guitar until I glanced up. Has he modified the Honher keyboard with a whammy bar or is that a factory option? I haven’t seen it before.
[EDIT] nvm I found the answer;
This album recently got featured by bandcamp; I really like the groove on the track “Three Magi Get Paid”:
