Voxglitch Community Feedback

is there an audio demo of that anywhere? Or is it something I can check out for no cost? Should hear more of your standalone ecosystem

Yes, I’ve created a few YouTube videos of the Wyrm module (see below). But also, you can try it out at vxsynth.com, where it’s included for free. When I port Wyrm to VCV Rack, the interface might change a bit due to the rack dimensions, but the features should be identical.

yes you’re so correct. 15$ is like buying two doener here in Germany. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::thinking:

Or one bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup here in NL

Or about 88 hours (3.66 days) of electric power in an average household :low_battery: :electric_plug: :light_bulb: :desktop_computer: :slightly_smiling_face:

Is it multi synthesis or was it just wavetables? I heard the demos last night but haven’t checked your ecosystem yet, too busy playing with Plaits and Braids hehe

Looking at the page I hope you port Weaver next, looks like modulation fun… can you export samples from vxsynth with the free tier or can you only export patch formats with the subscription? Wondering cause there might be some sampling ideas I’d like to send to the other workstations chop it up with my effects plugins and such…

I finally got like 15 minutes to tinker with Strata. I must say at first I didn’t get it, then as I started adding different layers and playing with the values and reordering the layers, the results started getting more and more interesting. Another “meta” module to add to the list of Voxglitch modules with lots of moving parts. I think it will find a place in my composing as it can really make sounds unique in the rack. Superb work. At first I looked at the 2 ins/2 outs like a problem or shortcoming, but it works pretty well to create the magic internally and just cv/gate it like some vst in Host fx.

Yes, it benefits by sculpting a good signal then running it through effects

You can record audio with the free tier using the record module. However, exporting and importing patches is disabled for the free tier. The ‘number of patches’ the main differentiator between the paid and free tiers at vxsynth.com.

Free tier: Only four patches

Paid tier: Unlimited patches.

If I allowed free tier users to export and import patches, that would provide them a easy way to circumvent the free tier differentiator.

One note on the Strata module. A user on YouTube had commented:

Sounds really great, lots of interesting sounds. But judging from what I see, there is absolutely no CV control about any of all those internal parameters, which seems like a missed opportunity.

I think that the idea of adding cv control to parameters is great, but it’s very difficult. As I responded on YouTube:

Quick note: Unfortunately, it’s a lot more challenging than I remembered. Imagine that Strata works a bit like a photoshop image with layers. The layers are effectively “flattened” whenever you change a parameter, and that flattening process takes a lot of CPU. The flattened version is used to generate the audio. If I add CV control to a layer’s parameter, the entire stack has to be flattened whenever that parameter’s value is changed. It simply might not be practical to add this feature given the current architecture. I agree that it’s a bummer, and I’ll work with Claude Code on possible solutions.

I’m going to explore if flatting the layers might be possible in realtime using SIMD or some other optimized strategy. If I find a way, I’ll add it.

Yes, I’ve noticed the sound sorta drops briefly like it re-renders as I change a parameter in the module , there is no smooth application of what changes are made to layer settings so maybe this monster needs a face lift and some more work to fit in VCV better, plus I would like true polyphony because I can play a note from my keyboard but only one at a time, yet if I press a key and click on one from the keyboard on the module I can hear two notes… I’d like to hear those notes when I press the actual keyboard but if it stays monophonic I’m okay with that too.

At first I thought, bummer no cv, then I thought about the synthesis and then I settled on it being difficult at best, so best to leave it alone.

A lot could be done by applying really basic sound design with the audio results and not opening the real processes themselves. Say you add simple waveform synth voice that either drones or move with the gate/cv, and also drive the audio results of a layered patch into an internal mixer–then you could ring mod, am, crossfade, tremolo, stutter and/or even route layered audio results into the v/oct input at waveform synth for fm. Add a dubby delay after mixer section with level, time and fdbk for a funky addition that could also be cv driven or mod wheel driven. If people can take the cpu hit, provide 2 complete patch bays that could then be sent to the same mixer section for the all the above fun applied to the audio results of the patches.

or course that is well within each patchers ability to apply themselves by pulling up 2 Stratas and doing this with cables and mixers and vcas and vcos

perhaps i will, lol

Ah, I hadn’t thought of that!

One quick response to the modulation suggestions: Strata is admittedly a bit confined, but it produces some output that’s also very unique. I’ll do what I can, but my recent research hasn’t turned up any solutions.

A proper modulation matrix is included in my upcoming module, “Wyrm” for rack. In addition to external modulation CV inputs, it contains internal modulation sources (4 x lfos, 2 x adsrs, 2 x sequencers, and 2 x chaos sources) and an insane routing matrix. Wyrm obviously sounds different. It’s more like Serum and Vital, but has it’s own character. Development on Wyrm (mostly migration work) is going very well so far.

Grabbed Strata - fun thing, i liked. Seems kind of lofi textures shop (+ not only lofi able to get).

From possible ideas - sample import as source component lol. OR (i think it’s even more interesting) Ability to use Strata as FX, with using “transforms” for incoming signal. Although, perhaps i not exactly get the mechanism of such processing, so, maybe it’s incorrect idea, and works striktly for engine sources idk.

Hi everyone! I posted a pre-release alpha version of Wyrm is over at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lminJeHP3jZ0TS4ZYOfZcGO4-wuVUfaW/view?usp=drive_link (Windows build only, sorry)

Your feedback is always appreciated!

It will be a commercial module, likely costing $20. A super minimal patch looks like this:

Look super fun, I will look at it next week for sure

If you enjoy synthesizers, I think you’ll love it.

Care to give a brief overview of this oscillator and what synthesis methods it has? Just wondering in case it was really just a wavetable oscillator but if it had more synthesis types I’d like to know… I’ll definitely be picking this up for Black Friday with the rest of the modules I have my eye on… hoping to hear more of this in the meantime, I’m still experimenting with Strata and the others I have so far…

@clone45 If you have the time, I would love to take it for a test drive if you would build a Linux version. At the very least, I can let you know if there are any Linux-specific issues. I would also give you feedback on my user experience.
