Was just given a 2023 Mac Mini M2 which I updated to Tahoe 26.5.1.
Installed VCV Rack 2 Pro; all good, makes the appropriate bleeps (I am a longtime Rack user on Windows and Intel Macs).
The issue is when I load VST/VST3 instruments plugins using the HOST or HOST XL module…the UI sometimes takes tens of seconds to appear, and after it does, the visual interface lags and is semi-responsive (best case) to completely non-responsive (worst case) in terms of mouse clicks. But the audio is processing and sounds just fine.
As a sanity check, I loaded up the same misbehaving plugins with Plogue Bidule as a host, and all worked as expected.
Anyone have an idea of what could be going on or have some troubleshooting procedures?
Can’t say it happened to me, and I’m HOSTing VSTs on Apple Silicon for years, recently upgraded from M1. However, I never upgraded to Tahoe (in fact, went through the hassle of downgrading to Sequoia after I got force-upgraded).
If it’s OS version dependent, would suck if I have to upgrade eventually.
Curious which plugins cause this, or is it all of them. For me no issues with Pianoteq for example.
Every instrument I tried has been affected to some degree, but I haven’t been methodical in testing. Madrona Labs ‘Sumu’ is almost completely unresponsive (takes a long time to even load the UI…a plain white window until then), similar story with Arturia ‘Pigments.’ Simpler plug-ins (like Klevgrand’s Speldosa) are jerky-but-usable. I am hoping for a fix soon because downgrading from Tahoe seems fraught.
