With this development is it possible to recreate in Rack every sound produced by patches that there are in Surge XT daw plugins, or there is some misalignment feature wise that would not allow that to happen ?

You can create many of the surge vst patches but not all. You can also create patches that are impossible to create in surge vst

The primary features we didn’t port from the vst are

  1. The surge fm - there are some technical reasons for this and we might revisit it after 2.0.0.0
  2. The mseg snd formula modulators. Mseg you should just use shapemaster. Formula was too hard to build in the rack cross compile environment
  3. The airwindows effect bundle is missing.
  4. A few fx like the limiter and eq we left out and we also left out the adsr envelope. Those are covered well elsewhere

Also some of the filter routings would require a bit of work to create and would add sample delays since rack isn’t block based so they may be a bit tricky to get phase accurate

But my bet is you could recreate most of the ones which don’t use surge fm

Oh also of course we left out all the voice management stuff but that’s really the difference between a module set and an instrument

I don’t like not finding some evidence of what might have triggered weird issues.

A Windows build can be downloaded here:

Maybe answered, but I couldn’t find it. Can you load “user” wavetables, or are you limited to the “built in” ones? The manual is not finished where it discusses wavetables…

Yep.

what does that mean, exactly? (I honestly don’t know)

Yes

Either add the wavetables to documents surge xt wavetables per the xt vst manual, or use the menu item in the wavetable menu in the wavetable oscillator which is labeled load wavetable.

Sorry - agree it wasn’t very clear.

You can load a single wavetable by clicking on the Wavetable presets menu at the top of the display and selecting “Load user Wavetable” but that doesn’t give you access to the prev/next functionality etc.

What I did was put a Symbolic Link to my full folder of Wavetables in:

Home > Documents > Surge XT > Wavetables

Then in the Wavetables preset menu I selected “Rescan Wavetables”

Now I can drill down through all my wavetables from the wavetable presets menu and the prev/next function works for them.

Where is the wavetable menu?

That’s what I was looking for!! tx.

Oooh in do wonder if I can get the wavetable menu in both spots also. I’ll look at the code and see if that’s easy or not

Once you activate the file open / folder open, how do you select a folder?

That menu selects single wavetables Any wavetables you put in that documents directory will appear in the menu when you create a new wavetable osc or restart rack

Or when you rescan. (I forgot I added the rescan)

This is what the manual says about wavetables:

That’s not the vst manual
