Actually, there is an option for that, added in one of the last updates:
Nice!
Ah that’s excellent - thank you!
ShapeMaster now gets found when searching ‘MSEG’ which is definitely a bonus!
You are right, it doesn’t. It searches 4 things afaik: creator, name, slug and tags.
I’ve used this when setting the slug of my markov chain module to “markov” even though the actual name of the module is “mr. chainkov”, this way you can find it searching for “markov” as well, similar to how you can find Macro Oscillator 2 when typing “plaits”.
Searching in the description is nice though and solves the issue of not having a tag for every common concept (like “high pass” additionally to “filter”). MB is very neat.
I appreciate we probably don’t want many more (if any) module categories added over on the left - I was thinking more of a ‘keywords’ field that developers could add that would be included in the search but not in the left side menus
exactly. I think even a “canned” set of searchable tags would be fine. It there were like 10X as many of them and they were updated often.
For sure, I think searching the description solves it all really. Using your example, the developer wouldn’t even need to add keywords, simply describing what the module does would suffice like “a resonant filter with high-pass and low-pass modes”.
Is it challenging to create an ‘Expander module’ that would list the default ‘Factory presets’ of it’s left neighbor?
In some cases it’d be so useful to have the options available at the time of composing/programming…
Most of the needed code is there in STRIP, so it should be pretty straightforward.
That been said, don’t expect anything from me until the source of Rack v2 is released.
That’s pretty cool. In your experience what percentage of modules have factory presets? When I was looking around (in a very un-scientific manner) it seemed like not many do.
Presets are cool but unfortunately they can only be on one level - no sub-folders/categories. We had to develop our own preset system to get round this on ShapeMaster
Not many, I have to admit. But I think it’s a great opportunity missed by the developers.
Factory presets could very well present the capability and features of modules. Organ Three is one of the modules showing the value of having ‘factory presets’. But I also learnt a lot about DHE and KautenjaDSP modules through them.
Most people fool around with 8face but I prefer saving my best .vcvm files directly into the ‘Preset’ folders just to have them in the context menu all the time. (The rest goes into one of the subfolders of my Temp directory.)
Strip will let you have several layers of presets in folders.
Hey @stoermelder
Don’t know if you have started to look into V2 yet, but I was having a dream last night about using Rack V2 and the awesome room brightness feature when it occurred to me that it would be so amazing if there was a module that could CV control the room brightness… the next logical thought that occurred to me was, that sounds like a job for super stoermelder! just putting it out there
an amazing idea
If that’s not cause rack v2 crashing, you can do that with current version of modular fungi lights-off module… nmap from @stoermelder (click on the light off module)
Why don’t you make one?
Sounds more like the sort of thing the Frank Buss Shaker module would do.
As some of you may have noticed I’ve gone radio silent during the last few weeks. There are some reasons, the main one is I’m focusing on building hardware modules at the moment (just for my own use) and I’m not following Rack as much I used to.
I know a few people are waiting for PackOne on Rack 2. There will be a release at some point but I’m in no hurry and development isn’t my highest priority at the moment. I’ll make no promises but I think a release at the end of December should be realistic.
In the meantime I updated my automatic build pipeline for Rack 2’s SDK, so everyone can try out the latest code without the need of building it yourself.

That would be a great Christmas present! But I will survive if it takes longer.
