one module that is missing from vcv

a multi fx unit. i havent seen it. one 8hp module that can do 4 or 5 fx in one module at the same time. i see voxglitch effects bank but that thing is ridiculously large. personally i try to avoid large modules. maybe im only one though. Maybe an interface like Pamelas Pro Workout would be a good fit for this type of module.

UPDATE many are suggesting single-effect modules (thank you for your feedback here). However that is different from what I am thinking of.

If you buy the host plugins you can use your own vst multi effect and the module is fairly compact, you can run effects that would definitely not fit in small spaces in a little package and you just have to find the right effect plugin for your needs.

There’s also MFX by ALM, it’s 6hp with a wide variety of effect types and you can choose the effect for the job, but it only has one effect available at a time.

Effects bank is great fun, but not your typical multi fx. It could not possibly replace an Eventide unit with its intense programmability. Rather it hits a more chaotic note, more useful to destroy or transform material into a completely different thing. And it has interesting gate and routable cv inputs plus internal sequencers and envelopes to create patterns of movement and rhythms.

But you can take your time and do subtle stuff as well, but it is designed to wreak havoc.

Artifex is not a true multi fx either. But it’s a nice citadel fx castle clone, which gives you some familiar sounding fx more like traditional digital fx units. But it also is about shifts and changes and rhythms that defy studio logic.

But yeah no one unit feels like a go to fx unit for any fx combination you could imagine. But a quality mixer like MindMeld with 4 of your favorites attached could cover a lot of ground. And if ordering is important there are clever matrix mixers like the Stoermelder Intermix that can save mixing presets that can juggle the order.

To my mind you could take some forsitan units, Sapphire units, a fun filter or two, Spork and expander and create your own monster multi fx setup you could use in VCV.

This! I just patch my own up with comb filters, phasers, ring mod and feedback loops etc.

The only other multi-fx I can think of is MFX but that’s premium, and only does one algorithm at a time (although again, you can chain a few together).

I made a morphing fx patch too using Stoermelder Transit, where you can store presets for different effects and crossfade between them. There are a few different ways you can do this, changing the dry/wet control if a module has one, automating fx sends with Map, or routing everything with a matrix mixer. Nysthi has a 4-way mixer with an XY pad which is also great for blending between different effects. Got a few patches with that kicking about somewhere, it’s polyphonic too which is slight obsession of mine. :joy:

Sadly, Host-FX breaks most of my plugins on Mac at the moment, and makes the GUI unusable.

Hopefully there’s a fix for that soon.

Exactly.

It’s modular, roll your own.

It is fixed but not yet released. Turn controls very very slowly and it does work.

EDIT: It was released sometiome last night my time and seems to work fine again (quick, not exhaustive test)

It was hugely laggy, making most of my plugins unusable. But I’ve just seen there’s update which seems to have fixed it!

Yes Host needs some more work though vcv did just release an update last week. but still finding some issues. also you would need to add many host fx in a chain. not really what im going for here.

I’m not sure what you’re going for here exactly, or why.

What’s the advantage of having multiple effects in one module, as opposed to separate ones? Isn’t this defeating the whole point of modular? Surely having complete flexibility is better, that’s the whole game.

If it’s some kind of UI issue for you (you mentioned a module being “ridiculously large”), another way of managing this in VCVRack is use the PatchMaster module to build a custom set of knobs, buttons that you can place in a convenient place in your patch where you perform, and keep the actual mapped fx modules out of sight.

Same about HOST… after a “certain time” (multiple patch load, as example), the hosted VST3i instrument plugin seems “corrupted”… I’ll must delete the VCV HOST module, and create a new one!

“complete flexibility” would/should include a multi-FX module. (FWIW, not my bag, but irrelevant…)

What’s most interesting (to me) about this thread is - with the exception of @cubistguitar- the interrogation of “why the OP would you possibly want such a module” vs “answering the OP’s question directly”.

That’s because we don’t understand why anyone would want this. We’ve suggested a few multi-fx modules, but combining different effects from individual modules is more flexible, and a more modular approach. I know there are multi-fx in hardware, but that’s a different scenario where you have constraints with HP space, power, cost etc. That doesn’t apply to VCV, which is why it doesn’t make sense (to me, at least!).

Something like Endorphins Ghost might be up your alley.

Hot off the press!

It is 12 hp instead of 8, but other than that I think it is exactly what you are looking for!

Yeah I don’t need a multi…wait

… updates immediately. Gotta try this one, thanks!

yep just wait a few days and one is being entered into the queue, whatever it is you are looking for, there is one in queue somewhere

Immediately needed this

Upon opening, it immediately crashes VCV Rack. I already sent a report to support. I was also waiting for this one too but I guess I need to wait a little longer.

EDIT: I solved this by changing the sample rate from 96khz to 44.1khz. VCV Support helped me out on this after I reported it.
