Modular Guitar Effects - Virtual Modular Channel

I thought Portland Weather module was a good replica for this wonderful module in VCV Rack world!?

Yes. Portland Weather is a port of/inspired by Rainmaker.

Yep, I was going to feature a section comparing Portland Weather to my DIY approach but didn’t want to make the video too long - people only watch for 30 seconds on average

The advantage of patching stuff from scratch is you can swap out the filters or try different effects, etc.

Anyway, this week I have been mostly looping ambient stuff again. Not sure the sunset picture goes with the music, also I’ve been trying to finish this for a month and probably overworked it, now I actually hate it, haha. It’s a common trap with any creative process so I’ve uploaded it anyway, and now I can move on to the next thing, which is hopefully a tutorial on how to make the Make Noise MultiMod in VCV…if I get time.

Well, this took a while and I’ve already posted a link on the thread about MultiMod, but I like to link all my videos on this thread too. How to make (something similar to) the MultiMod!

Haven’t uploaded for a while, moved house and haven’t got everything set up properly yet. In the meantime, here’s some dodgy glitch using Etesia (Clouds alternative firmware). The stutter function is great!

Finally back on the modular guitar effects, as per the title of this thread! I’ve moved house, and haven’t finished decorating yet so I haven’t had a lot of spare time. Here’s another resonator patch using Wallenda, and Masarti (comb filter) for some added spacey effects.

Polyphonic pannning is definitely worth a good look, as it adds a lot of vitality without smudging the signal. Thank you for this great tutorial!

Thanks! Yep, it creates a lot of stereo width without having sounds panned hard left or right. I always find that uncomfortable to listen to on headphones, but with loads of channels the volume is roughly the same on both sides of the stereo mix. Definitely one of my (*not very) secret weapons

Today, I’m back on the dodgy hardware recreations. I’ve always liked filter banks, so why not have a go at doing the Moogerfooger (inspired by Behringer’s latest copy!).

This week, I discovered a new way to make really strange drones, messing about on the laptop whilst waiting for my car to charge. All will be revealed at some point, if I can be bothered making a tutorial!

Nice one!

Well, that was hard work. I think I’ve had Covid again this week, and found it really difficult to record this. There are some very dodgy edits! But here you go, it’s ambient drone but using resonators with feedback. To be honest, almost anything can be made into ambient drone by using an excessive amount of Supermassive with 100% wet mix control, but that’s not the point! This technique can make all sort of different sounds, which means I need to make a longer tutorial on it

Sorry to hear you coped a dose of Covid, hope you are feeling better!

Thanks, getting back to normal. I’ve been wiped out for weeks!

Wow, no uploads for ages. Been busy with other stuff! Here’s some more of one of my favourite things to do, looping wavetable VCOs through a shedload of reverb. Need to make a version with the new Cloud Terrarium, but people love patches with free modules so I thought I’d see what I could do with the Surge Wavetable VCO instead.

…and a week later, here’s the obligatory tutorial on how to make this stuff! Super simple really, two sounds and three loopers, that’s all you need. I’m planning to diversify my output soon, just so many ideas and too little time to finish videos!

Forgot to spam a link, but here’s the latest tutorial which is on creating shimmer reverb. I didn’t cover this in the video, but if you have Host-FX try swapping out Plateau with Supermassive. You can make almost infinite reverb tails that go on for minutes!

New tutorial, and NOT ambient stuff for a change!

How to make textural, rhythmic noise. I didn’t know you could mix CV and audio signals together, but someone linked another video doing this with Eurorack hardware, and I thought I’d give it a go in VCV.

Back on the modular guitar effects today, as per the name of the thread. This one’s a bit silly really, I kind of smashed together as many effects as I could think of, and made them all polyphonic. Guitar jam in Dorian b2, second mode of melodic minor for extra weirdness.

Another day, another modular guitar effect. Number 20 is ‘It’s Good Cholesterol’, a bonkers delay/granular monster with polyphonic playheads and control over phase, speed etc. This thing is nuts! Also more improv in a melodic minor mode, this one is Mixolydian b6, also known as the Hindu scale. It’s a major scale with a minor IV chord from the b6 and also a b7. One of my favourites.
