Spring is Near

Generative ambient soundscape with 8 voices. ASEQ (docB) was used as a sequencer with a slowly morphing sequence. Wavetable VCO (Surge XT) for Lead and Bass sounds. Sine VCO (Surge XT) plus Echo (Sapphire) to give melting ice a voice. Occasional birds with Chirp (Bogaudio) triggered by Burst (Befaco). 5-channel polyphonic chord pad uses Pad (docB).

Breathing Memory

Generative ambient soundscape based on the Memory (Stochastic Telegraph) plugin. Some of the Memory sounds are cycling in a feedback loop. The patch also ebbs and flows through modulation of volume and reverb parameters, and an occasional reset (Wipe) of the Memory module to dissipate accumulating feedback energy. Thereby it feels a bit like a slowly breathing organism.

Pied Piper of Hamelin

Dark ambient soundscape inspired by the German legend dating back to the Middle Ages. Rhythm Explorer (Venom) provides the rhythm. Sounds from four instances of Radio Music (modular80) are combined in Vector Mixer (NYSTHI).

Each Radio Music module is loaded with samples from a different directory (Glitchmachines Cybernetics, Musicradar New Disco, Mode Audio MA-Layering Synths and Foley from the Ghosthack Advent Calendar 2019 Day 6). When playing the patch, assign your own directories/samples for Ambience.

Nice! Great to see Rhythm Explorer put to use. Here are a couple quick tips

  • You are activating the Dice at the start of each phrase, so the phrases are never repeated. A simpler way to get the same result without a patch cable is to activate the Pat Off (Pattern Off) button in the lower left corner.
  • Setting all the division modes to All - Reset is no different than simply using All for each.

Thank you very much for pointing out these optimizations!

Rhythm Explorer is really fantastic and I like to delve deeper for rhythmic patterns beyond drums and percussion.

Setting all the divisions mode to All probably has historic reasons. I first used different settings but then decided that it sounds best this way.

Thank you for listening!

The Delicate Nowhere

30-Minute generative ambient meditation.

Pad and OscS (both docB) provide a lush backdrop, lead from Twist VCO (Surge XT). Nimbus (Surge XT) as a granulizer.

MusicalBox (NYSTHI) for ambience. In the video, the module carries field samples from the GDC2018-Game Audio Bundle by Sonniss. These are not included in the patch, but you can load your own ambience loops. Samples are triggered infrequently to avoid overloading the soundscape.

En Route to the Moon (and Back)

Generative ambient meditation with 7 voices to commemorate NASA’s Artemis mission. Soft and easy flow. Pluck created using FM-OP (Bogaudio). Scale is D# minor pentatonic.

Thank you so much :waning_gibbous_moon: !

Nice patch! I like the pad sound, it’s a bit like a choir.

Thanks for listening! I think you are referring to the drone made with docB’s Pad, are you? It plays the root note in 6 octaves and the VCA fades the notes in and out at random. In conjunction with the filter, this creates an illusion of different timbres.

This module doesn’t seize to amaze me, especially for its size. The only thing I miss would be modulation ports for Bandwidth and Scale modulation.

Pad2 has them, and its great to modulate. I also love docBs pad modules, but lately I’ve become obsessed with docB Gendy, which is just as interesting.

Great patch by the way!

Thank you for listening and pointing out @docB’s PAD2! Yeah, if it wasn’t for the size (20HP vs. 2HP). I know there is the smaller (4HP) ”Pad2, too, but it requires additional modules (such as Faders or 3x PLC) to infuse the data for the harmonics. I’ll definitely give it another try though.

Never used Gendy. Looks interesting but have a hard time to get started on it. Do you have any tips or links on how to use it? Unfortunately the manual for it is rather short.

I will post a video soon using it. Sometimes you have to start twiddling knobs first to get a sound out of it, it doesn’t always work immediately, especially when using it polyphonically, but it makes some really interesting tones once it starts working. DocBs modules are sometimes a bit of a mystery. Pad2 also doesn’t output anything unless you have a v/oct plugged in, odd, but I think thats how he keeps the cpu consumption so low.
