A tapestry woven from pads and sounds created with free VCV and NYSTHI modules, plus a compressor from Squinky Labs as the wildcard.
Lots of fairy dust to drift and soothe, with an occasional troll appearing.
Two additive synths (NYSTHI Phasor) provide a pad with spectra of left and right stereo channels morphing independently. NYSTHI Squonk as a pitch and parameter sequencer with self-randomization after the last step. Another flowing pad in the background. Noise swells with stereo echo.
Press the PUSH button in the upper right corner of the patch to start and stop audio.
“A dream itself is but a shadow.” William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Another entry to the Jack of all Trades Patch Challenge. Uses Valley’s Interzone for glitchy noises, especially amusing when increasing the LFO rate. Later on, Delay and Reverb is added for emphasis (exceeding challenge requirements). Experimental.
Sounds were created using a single generative patch in VCV Rack plus VCV Host carrying various software synths. Due to CPU limitations, tracks were recorded to wave (.wav) files individually and later mixed in FL Studio. Video production in FL Studio using ZGameEditor Visualizer.
Most rhythms are rooted in a polyphonically driven Polygene (Rare Breeds). The new Crust module by Bastl Pizza came in handy for synthesizing a few sharp drum and percussion sounds. The 4th bar always offers a slight random variation created with Poly Chances (Count Modula), assisted by Polycon16 (Bogaudio).
Midway, there is a breakdown in the beat for a short intermezzo of a cowbell with delay and a large reverb tail.
An FM bass, a pad and a lead voice are guided by Melodygen (SS-Modules), including a couple of trills.
Voices were arranged using a combination of Polgyate (ZZZ) and 8FACE (stoermelder), and SLEW modules (Bogaudio) for fading tonal elements in and out.
Sorry, the arrangement clocks in at 4 minutes, exceeding challenge requirements.
Second entry to the BewitchingBeat Challenge (November 2024). Melody is sequenced with random offsets and the gate sequencer has steps with trigger probability. Bass is supersaw-like and spread out in the stereo field. Lead voice is a saw fed through a formant filter.
Played it loud, made me dance.
Who won? The bee did, of course …
The picture of the Babbio Center, Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA, was taken in July 2005.
A serene ambient soundscape for the holiday season, with That’s No Moon (TNM) by DanT at its core. Parameters were locked on 2024-12-15. Unlocking them (context menu of TNM) will change the module’s sequence.
For additional variation, melodies from TNM are transposed in randomly chosen intervalls using a second TNM sequence, which is fed into STACK (Bogaudio) via Slope Detector (Count Modula).
The patch contains commercial elements: Pigments by Arturia, which is embedded in VCV Host.
One intention of this patch was to create a smooth melody that on one hand sounds random enough, but still carries some sense of progression. This was approached by creating pitch sequences using a triangle-like LFO that goes up and down continuously with varying speeds.
The patch contains Maximus VST (Image Line) as compressor in VCV Host-FX, but can easily be adapted to run without this module.
Meditation on fate, destiny and (in)significance. "There is special providence in the fall of a sparrow”, William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2.
Melodies are a mix of random sequences from Melodygen and pre-recorded note patterns from Entrian Player Melody. Some of the Entrian phrases are pre-set, others are chosen at random.
The overall idea was to maintain the generative and randomized nature of the patch, but also provide the listener small anchors in the form of recognizable melodies.
Quantum Space (ambient, performance, improvisation)
Slow ambient soundscape, semi-generative improvisation. This is a 27-minute meditation performance on an AKAI MPK249 MIDI controller connected to VCV Rack.
MIDI-CC mapping can be used optionally.
Host-FX carrying IL Maximus was used during recording, but was omitted from the patch thereafter.
