Why Is the microtonal hammond fundamental always on full?

I read the manual, but I disagree that one always wants to hear the fundamental up full. If you look at any set of “presets” or “patches” for the Hammond organ, that does not seem to be the case. It is of course also confusing that the most organs use “feet” for the pipe pitch, but this module uses the single tick mark to mean I guess pitch of the overtone divided by the fundamental? Well, confusing to organ players, anyway.

Maybe it would be cool to update this module to have an option for a control set more like a Hammond organ?

I am not certain, but you may not find the designer here.

That person just posted here, so I’m sure they are around.

Hey Squinky, thank you very much for your valuable comments! I think all of your critique is valid. By the choice of the name I have set expectations toward how the module should behave, and the module behaves differently, and I am sorry for the confusions.

I’ve tried to make it clear in the description that the goal of this module is explicitly NOT creating a clone of the Hammond organ. This would be a rather tedious path, as it would also require modeling the percussive tone onset, the Lesley speakers, etc…

My goal is to make audible the interactions between tuning and timbre, and the frequencies that a Hammond organ offers just happened to appear to me to be an ideal model for that purpose.

I do not have any plans to make the module more true to the original Hammond organ, it’s not the purpose of the module. But I am totally open to contributions from the community. If someone deems it worthwhile to make the changes, I would be happy to integrate them, as long as the changes do not interfere with the stated purpose.

Yes, exactly, it’s the approximate frequency ratio of the overtone to the fundamental. I am aware that the labeling on the organs follows different conventions, but those are confusing to me, I have to say.. I insist on showing the frequency ratio, but I would be open to removing the tick, or doing other adjustments. Any recommendations?

I just want to introduce my Harmonizer module here:

This is a pitch CV only module, so you can use any VCO you want (in this case, I used simple sine waves). You can set up to 16 different harmonic or inharmonic overtones or “undertones”, and every partial can have its own volume and pitch modulation (not shown in this short demo).
