When I learned it I was also taught a technique that grouped the tremolo into five subdivisions of the eighth note. The standard Segovia model for right-hand tremolo fingering is thumb-ring-middle-index (p-a-m-i, in classical guitar-speak). The 5-beat model I learned went p-a-m-i-m, apparently it’s a flamenco method (?).
