Wow - that is some jaw dropping playing by both musicians! incredible sensitive expressiveness coupled with fluid rapid runs.
I’ve never been able to play a large bansuri, even with a pipers grip. I can never get my fingers to reach all the holes while in a playing position.
Some day I would love the opportunity to play flute alongside a skilled tabla player.

Don’t sell yourself short Dave, your playing is as sublime. I had the same reaction (jaw dropped) and thought of you playing flute to this.

Does anyone know how this works exactly?
Looks like the bows are driving “scratching” mag tape back and forth across the heads of the tape machines, recording off the keyboards. They’re basically live sampling/scratching. The achieve interesting dynamics by combining pushes/pulls of the bow with striking the bow or tape to get fast transients.
Brilliant concept - very visual performance, unusual for a lot electronic performance.
My punk jazz band had a percussionist who had a r-r deck on stage with no capstan and he dragged tapes of his dog barking through it. It sounded pretty good. But not as good as when he put a contact mike on a hair dryer into a marshall stack, then jammed trash into they dryer blades while it was running!
