Peter Gabriel & Laurie Anderson
saw them in SF in like 81? and in NYC in 85??
Never did get to see them live . I was just a poor student in the no future generation back then, although I did get to see a lot of other bands. The most memorable of these was Einstürzende Neubauten playing live on a warship using shopping carts they had stolen from the local supermarket earlier in the day.
Saw them in NYC at Danceteria. I remember someone had one of those big metal dumpsters on stage and they were throwing bottles into it and slamming the lid to make sounds. Also saw the bad seeds there on their first tour, but I don’t think blixa was in the band yet.
Prince Jammy ! I have that on vinyl - Deadly Headly on horns etc.
oh, boy, I listened to that a lot when it came out!
cool
Saw these wonderful fellows in Bradford Uni students Union, a right Lickel Rude Boy in 1980-Crombie coat-Two tone Spencer Trousers, Fred Perry Polo/Button down shirt, Doc Maertens. Saw Bad Manners, The Specials at Roundhay Park-Anti Racism Festival-Attila the Stockbroker and other poets. At Bad Manners a ‘white is right Skinhead’ turned up with a ‘White jobs for White Workers’ placard, even he danced into the night, not sure he changed his mind though.
It looked femiliar, so once again I enjoyed every minute of it!
It was mostly Jamaica/Birmingham with these bands but there are bands like Madness from the south of England. The Specials were a Coventry band;
I’ve been really digging this recent dubbed-out-jazz discovery:
Indeed, the forerunner band that had a lot of their future members and songs was even named “Coventry Automatics”
A friend of mine and his band recorded in the same Leamington Spa studio Specials used early doors.
Oh, thank you! I totally forgot about this one, which used to be my fav Eurythmics album for quite a while. I’m pretty sure Never Gonna Cry Again still will make me cry again after 25 years.
