Voxglitch Community Feedback

@impersonalis No worries at all! I couldn’t tell. Ha ha ha. It is top of mind though, and I’ll keep you posted!

I thought it would be amusing to share the very first screen capture that I sent to @Omri_Cohen when building the ArpSeq. I was nervous that he’d think that the final product would look anything like this!

Out of curiousity how are your fancy new voxglitch panels made/rendered???

It’s quite a long story!

I thought that I had posted about it in the past, but I’m having trouble finding those old postings. I’ll try to create a video that walks through the process, but in the short term: It is possible to render PNG files using nvgImagePattern, which is part of my strategy. I use a single large PNG file to render the background of my modules, then layer other SVG on top of it. If I don’t create a video within a few days, please remind me and I’ll talk through it.

@clone45 I know I’m late to the party, but congratulations on releasing this amazing module. How did you and Omri Cohen end up working together on this? Did he approach you with the original idea, or did it grow organically between you two? I hope someday to have one of those cool mushroom logos on one of my modules!

Hi Don!

Omri approached me randomly with his idea! I never asked him “why”, but he suggested that my other sequencer modules might make me a good fit. Of course I dropped everything and dedicated myself to the project!

His original concept was so well thought out that it hardly changed during the 6 months that we worked on it:

At first, we thought it would be a paid module, but considering the amount of money we would realistically make from it, and the amount of time and pressure that I would have to support a commercial module, it seemed like releasing it free would make more sense.

Your modules deserve so much praise, Don! Your skills are far beyond mine, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you create next!!

I would love to work with you on a module!!! I have a whole list of ideas

With our only paid module ShapeMaster Pro, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the first (not a fortune by any means but certainly more than we initially anticipated), and even more surprised by the lack of need for the second (could count the number of support requests we got last year on one hand).

Here is hoping you are not thru with Omri collabs!!

The ArpSeq is a super tool to work with, I am using like a sequencer with some real time parameters I can cv or midi control. A bass line monster!

I would love to encourage a cv expander that would add some fun modulations. Your GUI is just awesome and is the heart of controlling this incredible sequencer. I love shrinking the length of the sequence to say 8 steps and creating a sequence 1 in the first half and a sequence 2 in the second half. I would love to do the mouse move that sweeps from one side to the other with a knob or a square wave lfo for instance. So I imagine an expander that lets me scale the length at one port, position( or center of position) at another. Then more adventurously, a cv that selects steps, then the cv inputs to move transpose at the selected step, probability at selected, cycle at selected. Then the cherry would be toggles and voltage inputs to switch view(gate, transpose,mod1,mod2) and toggle “on” and “latch” plus the “step after arp” and “s&h” toggles too. Whew, now I feel like a needy jerk. make this expander $10 for the needy jerk crowd, I’ll pay more for my transgression asking for a such a PIA project.

This comes from a deep place of respect about the fun I have already had with your incredible module. Imagine the freak show with lfo selecting steps and another cv laying down values in real time updated live in that fantastic GUI.

As I played with CV controlling the current ArpSeq parameters, I also wished for the ability to CV control some of the internals I imagine this might be a big chore to manage though.

Thank you, Omri! Let’s do it!

I should take this time to thank you, Omri, for all you do in the modular synth community. Thanks to the amazing educational content from Sarah Belle Reid and you, I’m here doing all this fun stuff and part of this amazing community.

I’m also grateful for your help getting the word out back when I released Elastika. I woke up the morning your video went live and WOW… immediately everyone knows who I am… LOL.

Sending you a private message in a few minutes…

Hi Not a big deal, but just to say that to get the default theme (dark), I first have to edit the file Voxglitch.json, with “light” rather than “default”, launch and quit VCV, edit the file again with “default” and then I’ve get the dark theme.

By the way, it’s voxglitch.json ( the one in Rack2) that seems to be taking over,. Although I seem to have read that it’s the one in the “res” folder that should be edited. But may be I’m wrong.

That’s strange. Are you getting the light theme initially? I’m hoping to update my theme code so you can switch themes without having to reload. If you have a work-around, that may have to suffice for a little while until I sort things out.

When it comes to my current focus, I’m consolidating my sequencer code so that all of my modules use the same fundamental “classes” (c++ stuff). This will make it easier for me to roll out improvements to all of the sequencers, like undo/redo, polarity, start and end position, etc.

@cubistguitar The changes that I’m working on right now might lend themselves to a “universal” expander for all of the voxglitch based sequencers. I’ll reach out to you later on if I veer in that direction!

Here is hoping you are not thru with Omri collabs!!

It was such a pleasure working with Omri! Hopefully our paths will cross again in the future. I love that he collaborates with a variety of module builders.

(Ormi, I’m here whenever you need me! :man_bowing: But I’m also really interested in what you and Don might come up with! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help!)

If only I had infinite time. There’s so many interesting things to explore these days.

Yes Exactly, I got the light theme initialy.

But as I say it’s really not a big deal, one restart is not the end of the world, especially compared to all the amazing stuff and improvement you give us

Hi everyone! I haven’t been working on modules lately, and I just visited the forums after months of being away. I saw that there were some issues and I’ll try to address them soon. Life has kept me focused on other things for a while. I’ll try to set aside time in the next week or so to audit my modules. Thanks so much for your patience. Always feel free to reach out to me at clone45@gmail.com, which is my personal email which I monitor daily.

Cheers, Bret

Good to see you back Bret! I posted about Satanaut a while ago, doesn’t seem to sound the same as it used to but I’m not sure if anything changed or it’s just me. There are still a few of your newer modules I haven’t checked out yet, so no rush at all! Appreciate your work, cheers.

thank you Bret for your amazing modules! I would have just 1-2 requests: your Ghosts and Grain Engine modules are really good and solid but they kind of miss a visualizer of sorts… its quite quirky to do sample related operations “blindly”. please think of something for their next updates/versions. thank you again!

Yeah man your modules are awesome! I’ve recently discovered Bytebeat, which just blew me away! Also grain engine, incredible stuff! Thank you!
