Oh, I may have gotten the term wrong. I’m referring to this old error:

it seems clear that something in Rack is choking on that special char in the name. >> é << got mangled into >> é <<

I thought for sure that there was some new feature in Rack’s SDK for dealing with these, but my first few searches didn’t come up with anything.
