Venom is my top favorite plug-in and it keeps getting better. Thank you for your creativity and pushing VCV to make great sounds. Chaos Boxes will be a fun plug to explore.
I forget, how much will this premium plugin be? Canāt wait to hear more of these runglers rungling
I am still waiting to get the final pricing settled. But the individual modules will be about the same as Sofiaās Daughter and Spice Factory, and the entire Chaos Boxes collection will be a little more than Venom Oscillations.
I gotta say⦠I really appreciate your process⦠ie, not publicly releasing modules until theyāre finished.
So maybe $20 or so? Cause back when I bought your first module it was only 15 then it added another one later, unless the price raised since then Iām not sure
we get it. you want free shit. please stop pissing and moaning about the price of developersā work/products.
if you donāt want to pay a totally reasonable price for other peopleās work, then learn how do it yourself.
yes you are so right. i canāt hear this debates about free and prices. every developer spends hours into their modules. it is correct to give it as premium.
Eh⦠what am I missing?
S: āHow much will it cost?ā
D: āA little more than the previous setā
S: āSo thatās what, like 20 bucks?ā
ā¦is the interaction I heard. Sure, Shawn couldāve just checked the library instead of asking that last question but āplease stop pissing and moaningā in response to those questions seems kinda harsh no?
scroll through the voxglitch and jw/voxglitch patchseq threads to see the pattern.
Well to be clear, I totally agree with the sentiment. Just I felt the wording was a bit harsh. Not everyone has the same life situation, or the same communication skills/patterns/etc. No need to assume bad intentions IMHO.
Anyway. I had the pleasure of beta testing these a bit, and while I didnāt have time to contribute very much this time around, I can attest that Dave has been really meticulous about this one. This (and the oscillators before it) are absolutely worth paying for indeed.
No I was planning to buy these modules
But you will have to admit you have spent a sizable amount of posting here seeking developers to comp you a paid plug-in. Itās not openly wrong to ask for help, but have some caution. We are a tight little community that often feels very friendly, be part of something cool and donāt just come on like an injured party, even some of the developers have financial challenges in life and this may represent a way to earn a very meager side income. Letās all be friends, we can see you are excited to use VCV, but reserve these requests for direct messaging. Some of those who moderate may misread your intent or enthusiasm as harassing and outside the rules. In synth new and shiny is exciting, but the 3000+ free modules are dope and deep. Slow down take your time enjoy the ride.
Iāve got plenty of time till black Friday so I can go back to some of the other modules I have to catch up on⦠like thereās one instruo I had discovered a couple weeks ago I wanted to play with but hadnāt had time recently
You buy what you want within your budget. But it is not really appropriate to post that info here.
Venom Chaos can be tamed.
All sound is coming from the Hybrid Knot - one of the modules in my soon to be released Chaos Boxes plugin for VCV Rack. The shift register loops have lengths of seven and eight to give poly-meters. The two triangle oscillators are creating both the dual drones and the percussion. The shift register DAC signals are slewed to control the drone volumes, and selected shift register gates are stacked to control the āmelodyā. The envelopes control aggressive exponential FM cross modulation to create the percussion. I manually bring in different combinations of soft sync for added tones and texture.
call and response sync, great patch
You canāt tame the chaos, you can only limit the impact it has⦠it might be able to prevent chaos but modular is innately chaotic and you only have the power to shape tone which brings more order to one fragment of an infinitely complex reality⦠quite honestly modular is just quantum monsters and weāre looking for new ways to break quantum physics with new modules every day
Iāve got some good news, some bad news, and some more good news.
Good news - Chaos Boxes coding, testing, and documentation is finished. Yay!
But the bad news is I have run into a snag trying to coordinate with VCV for release, so I doubt I will make my self imposed release deadline of the end of March
. I will continue to try to get Chaos Boxes released as soon as I can.
Some more good news - while waiting for the Chaos Boxes release I have managed to work toward the next free Venom release as well.
I have completed the new options for XM-OP to better emulate the sounds from Bogaudio FM-OP, in addition to all the unique sounds it could already do.
- New context menu option for exponential VCA response
- New context menu option for the feedback source to be post level attenuation
I can now easily dial in sounds on XM-OP that are nearly identical to FM-OP if I want.
I have also completed three compact polyphonic utilities and an expander for Rhythm Explorer
Merge 4x2 documentation - merge monophonic or polyphonic inputs into a polyphonic input. There are two sections each capable of merging up to 4 inputs into 1 output. Or the sections can be combined to merge up to 8 inputs into 1 output.
Split 4x2 documentation - split a polyphonic input into multiple monophonic or polyphonic outputs. There are two sections, each capable of splitting 1 input into up to 4 outputs. Or the sections can be combined to split one input into up to 8 outputs. The outputs default to monophonic, but port context menu options let you choose how many channels go to each output.
Merge Split documentation - The top section merges up to four monophonic or polyphonic outputs into one polyphonic output. The bottom section splits one polyphonic input into up to four monophonic or polyphonic outputs. If the total number of channels found across all upper inputs matches the number of channels in the lower input, then the number of channels on each split output will match the number of channels on the corresponding merge input. Output port context menu options let you override the channel count for each split output.
Rhythm Explorer CV Expander documentation - gives 3 channels of repeating stepped CV patterns for each Rhythm Explorer division. So now Rhythm Explorer can generate randomly generated repeating melodies to go along with the rhythm.
I still have some more modules I want to add to this release. It should be out not too long after Chaos Boxes has been released. In the meantime you can get a working development version from github at Venom 2.15.dev1 binaries as long as you have a free github account.
Here is a video showing some of the new modules and enhancements in action.
The CV Expander is providing the V/Oct melody for three voices, as well as timbre and release modulation for two of the voices.
Iām using the Merge Split to quantize three V/Oct signals with a single polyphonic VCV Quantizer.
Two of the XM-OP are using the new exponential VCA option.
I experimented with different seed values for the Rhythm Explorer, and saved two seeds that I liked into the Poly Sample & Hold Analog Shift Register. Each seed generates a repeating four bar phrase in 4:4. I also saved a 10V seed value which forces Rhythm Explorer to use the internally generated random seed instead of the user supplied value. I use the Bogaudio sequential switch to sequence the three seed values into an A A B B X A B X pattern, where X represents a new randomly generated phrase on each iteration. During the AB sequence in the second full iteration I reduce the density of the 1/8 note division. This preserves the melody, but drops some of the triggers for a more sparse variation.
I think it is amazing how just a few modules can generate a fairly complex composition with minimal effort
Neat!
Can you cascade the Merge4x2 modules somehow to combine two 8ch polyphonic inputs into one 16ch output?
