Even though the VCVRack ^ Pianoteq intersection is probably not that big in the Venn diagram of music, I just wanted to share that my piece Cadence finished in third place in this year’s Modartt video contest. I’ve participated in the last few years, always mixing VCVRack with some of their instruments, but it was quite unexpected to be in the final mix this year!
Lovely piece! And congratulations on placing in the contest!
Thanks Richie!
Fantastic! Congrats! Two very good pieces of music software and a wonderful composition.
Thank you!
Sounds lovely, maybe your piece will encourage a greater intersection.
Congratulations on your recognition!
I love PT and use it all the time. I joke that “PT + Surge XT + Valhalla Delay and Vintage Verb is 90% of my non-guitar/non-vocal music in logic”. It’s a joke because I also use the arturia jup v8.
But it’s great for algorithmic music also. I used it when i was first helping rebuild the make system in bespoke (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZQ3YO5ERrY) and also for other forms of scripted music (Stream 3 Ideas; 5040 Notes (disquiet 0422) by baconpaul | Listen online for free on SoundCloud).
I would love to see what people do with it in a rack-combined environment.
Wow, that Bespoke video is pretty cool, I really like that piece, right out of the minimalist’s handbook! Thanks for sharing it Paul, it’s giving me so many ideas for making a variation off of it, hope this ok?!
If this thread morphs into a “share your VCVRack/Modular + Pianoteq patch” thread, I would be really stoked; … and I wouldn’t even have to change the title of the thread, haha!
Congratulations, and well deserved Marc, it’s a beautiful piece.
Sure is, first time I’ve heard about it.
Thanks Lars!
Nice work! I don’t have Pianoteq, but I’ve always been surprised that more people aren’t using plugins with VCV. The only synth VST I use regularly is Pigments, but I have a ton of plugin effects that don’t have any equivalent native modules. The idea of using VCV for the generative part and VSTs for sounds makes a lot of sense.
And what I find so fascinating is that after hearing it, I’ve created a whole piece in my head centered around those alternating chords, and I can’t wait to try to put it together in Rack. It’s amazing how music can be such a powerful force when we hear something that inspires us so much. Also facinating is how something so beautiful in Paul’s piece can emerge from a simple concept. And for those who are not fans of minimalism, the word “simple” here is in no way derogatory, on the contrary…
I have the score and I’ll dm it to you. It’s a remarkable piece of music. It was useful to test bespoke though since it exercised the python library and also the hosting connectivity and it came out differently than I would play it at a keyboard but still interestingly
And yeah I would love this to be a pianoteq plus rack exploration thread indeed. I would click on those links!
And to be clear, I didn’t write that music. Its a segment of part one of “The Book of Sounds” by Hans Otte. The Book of Sounds | Hans Otte | Beacon Sound pretty good recording there.
