VCV Pro vs. VCV+

Hey folks, sorry if I’m being thick, I’d like to upgrade from Free to … Pro? or + … so I can try the VST version. What’s the difference?

VCV Pro is a licence you pay once and own for your lifetime. No try and buy option.

VCV+ is a subscription model that includes VCV Pro and all paid modules. So you can try the VST plugin e.g. for the fee of a month to decide if that’s what you need.

Also I don’t know if I understand it right, but looks like there’s a first module ( ALM Busy Circuits MUM M8) only available for VCV+. And if I am right (maybe it is a glitch) I really hate to say it, but I predicted it when the VCV+ thing just appeared.

Just to make it clear, that’s how it looks to me

That shows the same way for me too and if this is the way it is going to go from this point on then this is BS.

I could be way off, but if I recall from looking at the discord there is bug in the module not allowing paying customers to successfully download and open in their computer. I suspect ALM has asked for a pause over the weekend to write a patch to fix it for new paying customers.

Yeah, let’s hope you are right!

otherwise, for the topic starter, I would recommend VCV Pro rather than VCV+. I think the subscription stuff is bad and the trend of making everything a subscription service is concerning (if it is not a patreon or something like that, which is completely fine, at least in my opinion, it feels more like charity this way).

Something is just goofy with the library right now. The new Greyscale Nexus is not able to be added to my rack. It is just a glitch no worries I am sure.

off-topic: First and furthermore I like to see the Rack as a free and open-source music-making-tool. But ‘free’ also includes the freedom to sell some stuff.

The OP asked for a way to try the VST version. There also is Cardinal, a free port of VCV that runs as a VST plugin. Of course, there are some differences to the original Rack (a fixed set of abot 1200 modules). But for a trying pupose I would give it a try.

you can send midi to your rack instruments so all of a sudden vcv rack is a huge bundle package if you know how to put together the instruments. Also there are alot of visual interfaces that can be used to control your vst instruments in your daw. alot of people do not use it that way though so the instruments are scarce unless you put them together yourself. there are a couple of nice effects modules as an added bonus.
