VCV crashing when changing audio output source

VCV freezes and needs to force quit nearly every time I:

  • unplug my headphones and then try to change audio output to internal speakers
  • plug in my headphones again after I’ve been using internal speakers (even though it recognizes and switches to “External Headphones” I still get no audio)

What gives? I frequently unplug/re-plug in my headphones throughout the day, and this happens every singe time. If this happened on any other application, I would have thrown it in the trash. Almost makes VCV unusable. But I love it so much, I’m willing to put up with this bug. Any fixes? I’m on a MacBook Air M1. This happened in VCV Rack 1 and 2.

firs set audio device to no input device before unplugging headphones. Issue is not Rack but rtaudio, the lib used to interface Rack with your output device. Not something VCV folk can fix
