Unable to run on Windows 11

Hi,

Just received a new Windows Tablet which came with Windows 10, installed VCV Rack 2.06 and it worked fine. I have just finished upgrading to Windows 11 and now VCV Rack does not run at all, I get the little spinning circle for a second or two and then nothing.

Kind regards,

Matthew

I’ve been running Win11 for several months with no problems, so your issue is probably not related to the new OS but rather to some OS setting.

Hi,

Thank you. I rolled backed to Windows 10 and it ran fine, then I upgraded to Windows 11 and before I installed anything I installed VCV Rack 2 and it didn’t open. Looking at the log I am getting this message:

[0.015 info adapters/standalone.cpp:167 main] Initializing audio [0.015 info src/rtaudio.cpp:243 RtAudioDriver] Creating RtAudio WASAPI driver [0.047 info src/rtaudio.cpp:258 RtAudioDriver] Found RtAudio WASAPI device 0: Speakers (Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST)) (0 in, 2 out) [0.211 fatal adapters/standalone.cpp:49 fatalSignalHandler] Fatal signal 22. Which when I checked the log running under Windows 10 the fatal signal line didn’t appear.

Thanks,

Matthew

Incidentally I’ve just installed VCV Rack 1.1.6 and that runs fine.

Kind regards,

Matthew

Here’s another thread on Fatal signal 22

Hi,

Thank you, I’ve gone through these and still no joy, I only have the default sound device installed at the moment. I think I may go back to windows 10 until I hear from support.

Kind regards,

Matthew

I assume you have Googled for ‘Windows 11 audio issue problem’ or similar? Many sources mention audio/device issues. Many Youtube videos on diagnosing/solving as well.

Still running W10, so I don’t have these W11 issues…yet…

Might also be that Tablets devices differ from PC’s in how they handle stuff. Most likely with different hardware (and drivers…) and such.

Hi,

I have yes and no luck. I’ve gone back to Windows 10 as I’m only using it for VCV so don’t really need windows 11.

Thank you for you help.

Kind regards,

Matthew

Same issue, the installer doesn’t even run. In windows event log error 0xc00000007b

There are a lot of us Win11 users using Rack 2, so there should not be any fundamental issue here. It sounds to me perhaps that this is a permissions error where the executable is not being allowed to run, but that 0xc00000007b error is somewhat of a catchall non-specific error. Googling it will lead you to how others have resolved this error.

I know my reply is a bit late, but I wanted to say that sometimes compatibility issues can arise with new operating systems. So, I think going back to Windows 10, which was working fine with VCV Rack is a really good idea. In fact, it could be a good idea to update your Windows 10 installation with the latest versions of applications, including VCV Rack, to ensure compatibility and stability. On a related note, I recently came across a reliable resource for purchasing a cheap windows 10 key. I went ahead and installed Windows 10 on my own device, and it’s been a great option for me. So, if you’re not in a hurry to switch to Windows 11, this could be a viable alternative.
