Stopped Videos Spontaneously Restarting Themselves

I’d be watching an inline video in, say, a “What are you watching?” thread. I stop it and scroll down to see what else there is.

Then all of a sudden I hear that video playing again so I have to scroll back up to find it and stop it again. If it’s a long thread I often can’t find it and have to reload the browser window. Tonight I had two videos going at the same time (but self-started at different times) and had to chase them down.

I’m not sure if letting them play to the end will prevent them from restarting. I also forget if it continues from where I stopped it, or if it goes back to the beginning. It’s hard to reproduce on demand.

I’m using Safari v. 18.2 now, but it used to do it in earlier versions too.

I have experienced the same behavior while using the Brave browser on Windows. I have not been able to figure out what triggers the problem. I can’t say it is common, but nor is it a rare occurrence.

I have it too on occasion in Chrome on macOS. I put it down to some kind of javascript bug in Discourse. It happens rarely so I just shrug my shoulders.

sometimes I have the same happening here with firefox and WIN 11.
So this seems to be a bug that is independent of the OS and browser.
