Seeing bug in latest production release, where 8face modules are no longer using dark panel theme and missing panel options.

According to the changelog, this is by design:

Modules 8FACE, 8FACEx2 and 8FACE mk2 are now considered experimental, because loading of presets into any module cannot be considered stable and issue-free in every case.

It has the same theme as the “MB” and “ME” modules now.

Interesting, haven’t noticed any bugs or issues in my use cases. Use them everyday. Would be nice if this was optional because the brown is just not as pleasing to the eye.

Hi Ben,

First of all, thank you for your wonderful modules — they’re a huge part of my setup!

Problem

TRANSIT fades work in Rack, but Live’s device panel never shows the value changes (I’m not recording automation, just want Live to display them).

What I tried

Added the knob via Configure → still frozen
All Precision modes, minimal patch → no change
STRIP Randomize or CV-MAP on the same knob → Live shows updates instantly

Any idea why only TRANSIT gets ignored?

Setup : Rack Pro 2.6.4 + PackOne 2.0 → Ableton Live ___ (macOS 15.5) Tested in both VST 2 & 3.

Hi, unfortunately this is trade-off I had to make, because reporting all parameter updates back to the plugin host causes huge CPU usage. I don’t know why (as the plugin version of VCV Rack is not open source), but I had contact with VCV support in the early stage of conversion to Rack v2 and this is what they suggested.
Maybe I can add a setting for the this, but it will come with the CPU usage, which might cause other issues for you.

Hey Ben, thanks a lot for getting back to me about this!

I totally understand the trade-off regarding CPU usage. However, having this option would be absolutely amazing. I’m using a Roto Control, and being able to have real-time parameter feedback would completely change my setup. Honestly, this would probably become the only viable way for me to reliably use Rack in a live situation with full hardware control.

If it’s possible to add this as an optional feature (even acknowledging the CPU cost), I’d be thrilled and it would make a huge difference for my workflow.

hiii im sorry if this is the incorrect place to ask … but im wondering if it would be possible to add a sort of “load & replace next/previous .vcvss file from root folder” feature, similar to that found in the sickozell sample player??

Could you elaborate on the 8FACE etc. issues that can make it unstable? What form of instability might I encounter?

Not exactly, and this is actually my problem. 8FACE etc. loads presets into modules using a worker thread, for a few reasons, which is different from the UI thread and from the audio thread. For most modules it does not make a difference, but loading a preset this way is a unsynchronized call to a module. I guess you can see why this might can cause problems, if some complex stuff is going on, like in VCV Host. I added a exclusion list of modules which need the UI thread for loading, but obviously I can’t test every single module in the libary.

Hello Ben, I’m wondering if the new Novation Launch Control XL 3 is able to change color of one of the buttons on the very bottom row depending on which 8FACE MK2 preset i’m currently on. Also there is an OLED screen that can display text on the Launch Control XL 3, would it be possible to display a name of an 8face preset there when it gets switched to it, or possibly display a GLUE label name that i have over an 8face preset? As you can see, I’m wondering there is any possible way to get some kind of visual clue in a “laptop closed” situation as to which of 4 presets i’m on. (i use the 8face for tuning presets). thanks! @stoermelder
