Scanning sequence

I am looking for a method in VCV or Bitwig (or vst) where I can ‘scan’ in a sequence. I want to be able to shift the domain the sequence is playing in, adjust the length etc with a modulator or midi controller.

It’s fun to perform like this.

For example, you could set a starting point, change the sequence, the start and end point, (not the notes !) and then come right back to the original.

My original intention is to scan in a pre-recorded midi sequence with a midi controller.

for generative/generated sequences this comes to mind:

I am not looking to generate random patterns. I want to be able to slide in an existing pattern. Ideally, it would be to start from an existing pattern (midi).

Yeah, Slips isn’t necessarily that, but it does generate 64 steps and lets you freely move the starting point of a sequence with a length of your (modulatable) choosing.

Expander available if you need more than 8 steps.

STEPS will alter the number of steps from 1-16 with the expander present, SELECT will select the starting step from 1-16. It’s a shame ADDR-SEQ doesn’t update the numbers when expanders are attached. You can use more than one expander.

If you want to control STEPS by CV you’ll need Stoermelder CV-MAP.

you might like playing around with different kinds of PHASOR clocking or addressing

I like using the Hetrick Phasor Generator as my base clock device and then use its phasor( or rising saw) iust to drive other phasor tools that may swing or wrap or even reorder the sequencers downstream, Hetrick has the Sub Step Shaper that can swing or wrap the phasor and jiggle downstream devices like the hetrick sequencers that use the phasor input to scan

I also like to use the Doc B P16 And P16A sequencer addressers that can reorder a step sequencers steps according to set of patterns or a pattern you design in P16a, been driving the cv input of the Sickozell Step Seq and TrigSeq devices, cool stuff

What about using JW’s NoteSeq and modulating ‘Start’ and/or ‘Length’?

Yeah Voltage-Adressed or Phasor based sequencers is what you want to be looking for. Count Modula has some (optionally) voltage adressable ones. The Bogaudio one mentioned above is good. And indeed the HetrickCV ones, which are my favorites personally.

Thanks everyone, I will definitely look into all the suggestions.

Simpliciter from Nysthi in VCV (pro) records stereo here you can record pitch and gates in 1 sampler. Inspiration from @Omri_Cohen

Here I did not find a button for the offset from the looping audio, you need to press mouse button and keypress.

Ideal would be if there was a possibility to modulate the offset of the looping audio (midi sequence).

So I found a solution (not yet for midi out) in Bitwig and with cv.

Hi!

I also wrote you on Patreon. There’s something you can try with the Array module in Bitwig (and also in VCV). Here’s what I wrote:

You can use the NoteGrid to manipulate the incoming notes from the Midi clip you got. By using the Array module, you can sort of “live record” the notes, and then scan through them in different ways with a phase signal. You will actually need 2 Array modules, one for pitch and one for gates. Send the pitch and gates to the inputs, and use the Triggers module to trigger both Arrays (probably with a x16 triggers). Then you can use, for example, the 2 Step Access modules, one to write and one to read. Set the to the right resolution, and then you can change the length, and offset the sequence. You can, of course, also use other phase devices to manipulate this further.

There’s also an Array module in VCV, by the way. The pdArray. It works the same with recording phase and reading phase.

O this is great ! Thank you, I wil explore this method. Playing with Phase is so much fun.

The simpliciter MULTI has a “low” rate mode: able to record an play 16 tracks of CV, TRIGS and CONTROLS at 100Hz
