RIP Mark Schack

In memory of Mark Schack (mscHack / bliffton)

It is with deep sadness that I just learned about the passing of Mark Schack, also known as bliffton on Discord, Twitch, creator of the mscHack plugins for VCV Rack. Mark passed away suddenly on February 14, 2025, at the age of 56.

He was a quiet but deeply creative presence, he gave much to modular synthesis through his work.

His plugins brought life to countless patches and include:

Master Clock x4

Triad 2 Sequencer

ENVY - 9

ARP 700

Wave Morph Oscillator

Ping Pong Delay

Maude221

ASAF-8

Alienz, Dronez, Morze, Windz

MIX 24_4_4

Mark’s work was thoughtful, expressive, and full of soul. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and by everyone who used his modules.

Rest in peace, Mark. Thank you for everything you shared.

So sorry to hear that Jay. I appreciated his generosity in allowing @baconpaul and I to update and re-release the mscHack modules and am glad his work can continue to live on in VCV Rack 2.0 and hopefully ongoing. Condolences to his family and friends.

I’m really sorry to hear that. Mark was the one I learned about modules with when I first got started with VCV. His modules were easy to understand. Rest in peace. My condolences to his family and friends.

Mark was an OG plugin developer and I remember using his modules quite a bit throughout the years. RIP, Mark, and thank you for the contributions to the community.

To clear up some confusion:

Mark passed away last year, in 2025. It wasn’t a typo on my part.

When I posted three days ago, I had just learned the news and took time to do some research to be absolutely sure.

Bliff has been my friend since early 2018, when we met in my VCV Rack Twitch stream. We connected and began talking regularly once I figured out Discord and joined his server, “Land of Bliff.” I quickly became his module tester, not in a formal way, but just for fun. I tested and gave feedback on everything from that point on. I would share ideas or workflows I wanted, and he would work on them.

Even though he was a friend, I hadn’t had contact with him for a while. I didn’t want to bother him because I knew he was taking a break from the internet, and I respected that.

But a few days ago, something pushed me to see if I could find any news without disturbing him. Knowing a few things about him, I was able to find this:

https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/46595160/mark-donald-schack

I was shocked.

I had never seen him in person, or even in an image or video before, so I still wasn’t 100% sure (the wonders of internet friendship in this era, right?). But I finally got confirmation from our private chats. He once posted on his birthday: “Actually, I just turned 52 today.” That was on a Jan. 7th, the same as the obituary.

So now I know, and you know. More than a year ago, a great soul left this realm for the other side.

I plan on streaming in his memory. I have many of his “unpublished” modules he was working on and so many patches (more than 200) for VCV Rack V1 that I can’t use in V2 because of them. I still have V1 installed, so that’s what I’m going to stream. I just need to shake this sad feeling a bit first, but when I feel better, I will start. For those who know me, these will be long streams, hours, days, weeks, perhaps months. I don’t use the mic very often, but I might tell a few stories about the past, the modules, their history, and about Mark and his other projects.

I will post IF and WHEN I do this.

thank you

And Mark,

Where ever you went…

… There you are :orange_heart: ( He would understand why and what it means   )

Hi everyone,

I’m starting a dedicated tribute stream for Mark Schack (mscHack/bliffton) today.

I’ll be on VCV Rack V1 to showcase his full legacy, including the rare and unpublished PRO modules we worked on together. Just sharing the link for anyone who wants to join and hear his modules in action.
