Sorry it’s rather beginner lazy ass question lol (and i understand this somehow goes against modular aestetic), but is there else sequencers which not require be driven by external wires (for trig etc) for play ? Like it handy done in SEQ3, where exists simple “Run” button.
As you can guess, almost everyone uses a master clock, usually from impromptu. Most ppl don’t use a built in clock like you are talking about.
Sad
Ok then parallel question - is there ability to import like saved group of devices ? (As we build ready to go seq from Impromptu clock + [any sequencer]).
(Sorry it’s not joke i really may not know basic things in vcv despite my relatively enthusiasm with some other complex things).
you can build these chains as you want and save them as selections and load them in any patch then.
But… why? You open up a whole lot of possibilities with using an external clock/trig giver. Also, just wondering: you do know that you can save a template, right? So VCV will always open with a clock module or LFO?
Save as selections ? Sorry where it ?
Well, as example sometimes need just quick testing synth by simple sequencing. Yes i understand that separate clock make all this more flexible, but why not have optionally such “quick” ability (like Run button).
because a developer would need to spend extra time to make it, test it, document it. It would probably take up extra space on the panel.
Ok i understand, it reasonable (well the main thing that i wanted to make sure that did not missed similar sequencer lol).
Select a row of modules, while selected right-click on one of them then select save selection as :
To import it again go to file import selection :
Also, if you find yourself using something like some nice clock module and even a certain sequencer module a lot, and come to the conclusion that (at least at the moment) you want to experiment with other modules so often in connection to those, maybe also try including the clock module and sequencer, and maybe some other “scaffolding” modules like this (a mixer/routing solution, a couple of basic effect modules you use often, etc?), into your template patch, all wired up and ready to go. Then, when ever you start a New patch in VCV Rack, you open that clean slate patch - which isn’t completely clean anymore but contains all the stuff you want to be there by default.
Nice, thanks
@Guenon Well…yes, that seems correct.
As additionally move to this direction, i think would be good to add browser for “selections”, for display saved selections with captured preview picture. What brought even closer such group to separate module, and making it easier to identify (+ to avoid need for a long naming typing).
(Ironicaliy thing though, whereas once i requested add displaying list of modules in text form optionally, well…)
My Sequencizer modules can run by themselves if you configure the steps to do that. See the Timer-Controlled Step Sequencer section of the user guide. You can use the Steps 1s preset to get started.
The GATE input has a button that you can press to kick off the sequence. And there’s a LOOP button that makes the sequence loop.
Topograph the port of Mutable Instruments Grids has an internal clock, but can take external too. Great 3 channel rhythm sequencer.
If you just want to test a synth there’s a module in bacon music called poly generator which I use to test synths when I’m lazy. It outputs a variety of patterns including random arpeggio and several bits of keyboard music
Stoermelder makes some really helpful utility modules. I would suggest you check out STRIP
