Hi everyone,
I’ve started reading The Composer’s Black Box by Theodore (Ted) Gordon, and I’m opening a small reading/discussion thread here with a VCV Rack perspective.
I’ve just published the first post of a Patreon series where I reflect on the book while actively translating some ideas into VCV patches. I’ll keep sharing patch-based experiments along the way, so this isn’t just reading—it’s also hands-on.
I also just uploaded anew patch video on my YouTube channel. After reading the opening section, I tried working with a whole tone system, where all voices pass through a Bernoulli Gate. The probabilistic switching there functions as a kind of black box—something that clearly shapes the music, but never fully reveals itself.
If you’re reading the book, curious about black boxes, or just want to think about patching, structure, and responsibility together, feel free to jump in anytime.
