Problem with one plugin library nysthi

Total newbie at VCV rack. Running the current rack version on an older MacBook. My only “bug” is that I wanted to have a tuner (Hot Tuna by nysthi). Installed and worked, but has stopped working. It tries to update each time I launch rack, and completes the update without error messages. I do restart Rack after the update, but I can’t find Hot Tuna in my plugins and nysthi does’t show up as a manufacturer in the plugin sort options. I’ve logged out and in at both the Rack and the website. I even put the nysthi folder in the computer trash (rack rebuilt it, but no fix).

Any ideas? Thanks

Reset filters and try search for “Hottuna” not “Hot tuna”.

No change, hottuna returns nothing and NYSTHI still isn’t in the filter’s manufacturer list. Thanks.

You say older MacBook, it’s possible the NYSTHI modules do not work with older MacBook, maybe let us know the OS and processor installed on your laptop.

Have you searched the Rack log file for “NYSTHI” or “Tuna”?

Yep, it appears NYSTHI doesn’t like old macs. The laptop I have Rack on is running High Sierra (it is OLD), I do have a nice modern Mac laptop, but I have my recording software on that one, thought putting Rack on a separate machine made sense. So far, this minor glitch is my only problem. I did find this, so I’m not the only one to have run into this

Thanks!

And did that solve your problem ?

Yes, just loaded it this morning. Works great. As I said, I’m a newbie at Rack. If I stick with it I will get a newer computer. Maybe a Mac Mini, those things are fast and I would love a larger than laptop screen for Rack!

Thanks everyone.

I’m not a fan of Apple at all in general, but I got the cheapest base spec M4 mini last year, and I have to say it absolutely slaps for VCV.

Even fairly crazy patches barely make it warm, and it seems to have zero fan noise. I think I’ve heard the fan come on once since I got it.

Should have paid for a bigger drive in retrospect, but just wanted to see how I got on with it first.

That is also my main machine, but it does have 32GB of RAM. And I can also rarely get it over 50% CPU at 48kHz and 256 samples at 1 thread. Never heard the fan yet, so if it’s on it is dead quiet, not the jet exhaust noise of some PCs we will never mention or even a high spec i7/i9 MacBook Pro. Happy camper. Also loved my M1 mini which my wife is now happily using as a music making device (nothing serious, mostly in Garageband, as background music for some video work she does as part of projects. And some movie streaming as it has a 2024 4K LG screen which is quite nice and was cheap when bought. I kept my 2019 Dell as it is more colour accurate still, and I got it while it was on sale).

On the storage side, I have an external 512GB SSD connected via USB-C, plenty fast to store samples and other storage happy stuff. Internal 256GB storage is only half used. But I only install what i actually use, anything I don’t gets pruned every so often. Your mileage may vary.
