Hello! I bought the Pro version of VCV Rack a couple of days ago and I can’t get it to work properly in Cubase, in linear mode the knobs are really jiggly
I tried Magic Mouse, Logitech MX Master and MacBook Trackpad, different versions of Cubase and different versions of VCV Rack, built-in MacBook screen and external monitor, even updated Mac OS version to the last one, the problem persists anyway
I haven’t experienced similar problems with any other plugin, Cardinal Rack also works perfectly fine. And standalone version of VCV Rack works fine too. Maybe someone experienced similar problems? I send an email to VCV Rack support, but they are quiet so far
It looks like “Linear” together with “Lock cursor while dragging” is working perfectly with the audible instruments. Try that setting in the other VCV.
Thanks for checking the video. I tried it, in the VST version the problem is relevant regardless of whether “Lock cursor while dragging” is enabled or not. And the standalone version always works fine, regardless of whether I enable this option or not
Already did it on Monday, but while I’m waiting for an answer just decided to ask here, maybe someone knows a hidden feature in the VCV settings file or something similar that can solve this problem
I can see you bought Rack Pro v2.6.3 from VCV Rack 2 - Virtual Eurorack Studio and then immediately updated to the v.2.6.4 release candidate, which has the following in the changelog:
2.6.4 (2025-04-18)
Fix dragging knobs on Mac when UI scale is set to non-Auto.
So, just a theory, but you just might be experiencing an unintended side-effect of that change. You could try and downgrade Rack to v.2.6.3 and see if it makes any difference. Whether it does or not, that would be a valuable data point for your support ticket.
Thanks for your reply! I tried 3 different versions of VCV (2.63, 2.6.4, 2.5.2) I couldn’t find any older versions of Pro but if they can be downloaded somewhere I can check the older ones too
Ok, well if you’ve tried all those versions there’s no use trying more versions. It’s clearly a problem and possibly a Cubase-on-Mac specific one. Just let support have a look at it. You might be the only user of Rack Pro in Cubase on Mac
Does it happen with VCV modules other than the audio input/output ones? If not, does it still happen with those I/O modules set to anything other than “DAW”?
My guess would be that there’s some kind of interaction between Cubase and the VCV VST. Maybe both are trying to set the VST’s volume, or something similar?
