Plugin and VCV compatibility problems on older versions of VCV

Hi

I have a pretty old macPro (no update possible) and a more recent Mac, but dedicated to another activity. My problem is that updating or installing plugins becomes complicated on the old Mac. Unfortunately, it’s the one dedicated to music. Most of the time I have to subscribe to a plugin from the recent Mac and manually copy the module folder in the plugin folder on the older Mac. Sometime it’s work sometime not. The VCV version on the old Mac is 2.3.0, and on the new it’s 2.4.1. So my question is, is it possible that some plugins don’t support older versions of VCV? This seems to be the case. Some plug-ins on git-hub have a link to a “legacy” version like impromptu. But for others, DanT and venom for example, I don’t know how to download old versions. Do you know if its’s possible.

Another solution would be to update VCV to the latest version on the old Mac, but I already have a Free version (2.3.0) and the Pro version, which must remain in 2.1.2. for the VST plugin to work… So I need to update only the Free version, but I’d like also keep version 2.3.0 just in case. Hence my second question, is it possible to install several versions of Free VCV versions at the same time.

Its a mess I know haha

Yes, there have been new/changed API that make a plugin not backward compatible when they use the change.

Multiple Racks on the same machine are fine. They just need to live in separate folders, and (I seem to recall) have a differenr name for the executable. The latter probably not needed if you supply the -u command-line parameter to point to a “User folder” unique to that copy of Rack.

But I don’t understand why you can’t upgrade Rack on your old Mac (either Pro or Free).

I don’t think older versions are officially supported.

Thanks. Changes in API. Make sens.

For the Pro Version, don’t know why but with recent versions the VST don’t appear anymore in reaper.

For the Free version may be it’s fine, but with my version of OS (wich is 10.11), I know updates become more and more touchy (not especially VCV). That’s why I prefer to keep version 3.0.2 on hand just in case.

Given that you have Pro, and Reaper is supposed to be a supported DAW, you might want to contact VCV support about the problems you are having with recent versions of the VST.

They might also be able to answer your questions about plugin support, etc. for the earlier OS.
