Just got PatchSeq and when I was using it on my 2018 i5 MacBook Pro it really crashed, and the desktop icons were bigger and aligned differently? Patched the PatchSeq into Tape Fiasco 2 and Smear via VCV Host, clock set to trigger and randomize, and I had also recently added Leviathan Deep Cache to the rack to test out how well it sped up loading, eventually the resource usage went crazy and it stopped at a single tone as I was turning the clock on Pro Workout everything was connected to down and I had to forcefully restart my Mac and rearrange the desktop. If there some issues with either Patchseq, Deep Cache, the plugins I was hosting or some combination of them? Don’t want to try this on windows in case it screws up more, but upon reloading my template with Deep Cache everything was normal on Mac.
Plus when I had a Deep Cache open, it affected the browser and made the list turn into a large grid with rows and columns of the module brands, added a “Slugs” dropdown in the module browser and all of those changes looked better for the MacBook’s display. Not sure if that changes anything but I’m hoping it reverts back to the single dropdown column like it does without the module active.
Deep Cache has extremely high VRAM usage. Since the cached module images have to be stored decompressed in VRAM, it ends up being a lot of data. On my machine, it takes up around 3.6GB of VRAM just for Deep Cache after it’s done loading everything.
(The on-disk cache is compressed, so it doesn’t take as much space)
In your MBP’s case, it seems to have an integrated GPU. That would use your RAM as the VRAM, so that would be why it froze.
As for why it didn’t freeze again the second time around, I would guess it corrupted Deep Cache’s cache and it’s erroring out instead of actually doing anything now.
As for the different module browser, that’s part of Deep Cache. It needs a custom one to be able to make use of the cached module images.
Well I bet that could be a clue… my windows machine has a better graphics card so it’s actually a bit strange to find a monster that uses vram and it’s not a thing like Minecraft or video editor… Don’t want to risk things getting messed up on windows even if the graphics are better, but if I have to remove Deep Cache for when I take longer moments away from VCV it doesn’t change much… but I will keep it in the rack for now as I try other modules
