I am new to VCV Rack and I have a question regarding the mapping of the 16 pads on a Novation Launchkey mini. The knobs can be mapped easily but the pads I do not seem to be able to do… what am i doing wrong?

What MIDI messages are they sending? CC’s or notes? You can set that up with the novation “Components” app right?
The device is not mine, i am in the process to purchase it. It needs a firmware upgrade first, before “Components” will do a thing
Right. Well, the VCV MIDI CC - CV module should be useful. Set it to receive from the launchkey, single-click one of the fields and press the pad. The field should learn the output of the pad and send its value to the corresponding port henceforth.
If that doesn’t work it’ll be because the pad is sending a MIDI note (or some other kind of non-CC message). In that case I’d do the update and get Components so you can set it up to output the message type you want.
On most controllers, pads send notes by default.

i checked with Novation’s “Components”… The pads do indeed send notes. I could apply a user setting for all pads, to send CC messages thanks for the help!
