Modular Guitar Effects - Virtual Modular Channel

I know Omri recorded a Plateau into Nysthi Sampler then reversed it. Would that work? Or even if we had a reversed Reverb IR in Convolvzilla and then put the sound through that module?

@ady34 try it! I have Pro, so I have the VCV convolver module. There are free VST ones too if you have host (Convology XT for example). I’m wondering if you sampled a reverb hit, reversed the wav file then loaded that into a convolver, maybe that would work. I’ll have a look for some reverse implulses too.

@aetrion-music well that took a while, but I finished a tutorial on sampling. I’ve used Cardinal because there isn’t much content on it, but it’s the same idea with VCV (I use both). In fact you can open Cardinal patches with VCV, you just need to swap out the host audio module. I’ll upload some of the patches later today.

More NOT modular guitar effects today, but forum rules say one post per user for spamming any music or patches. Not much point sharing the patch for this one because it’s all plugins (Battalion drum machine and Silo granular, both from Unfiltered Audio, and EFX Motions / Pigments from Arturia). Motions is doing some of the glitchiness, with the wet/dry amount varied in time with sample and hold, Pigments is just doing a couple of pads.

It sounds like you have an exciting project going on! Create a structure because this will help you to be organized and provide clear links to your playlist, making it easy for followers to stay updated with your series.

Thanks, this is good advice. I do have a structure in place, although it may not seem that way! I like to go off on a tangent and make whatever I’m experimenting with at the time. I’m also making a few tutorials because that helps to grow the channel, then I’ll upload some more of the modular guitar stuff later this year. Finding time is the main issue but there are plenty more patches to share. I’ve also made playlists for the other stuff:

Number 16! Polyphonic Nimbus (Clouds) plus a comb filter ping from the Surge XT filter, which is a lot like Rings.

EDIT: This should actually have been number 17, I already did 16. What an idiot.

Here’s another tutorial - ambient pads: This one was a huge amount of work and I spent weeks making the examples, which are all on virtual-modular, Author at Patchstorage. Hope someone finds this useful!

Edited, thanks @PaulPiko !

Another crazy effects patch, this one was blowing my mind with the visuals on a big monitor! I’ve used a sample, and wavetable VCO instead of guitar input, and control the feedback/ring mod depth and pitch shift with a MIDI controller,

Finished another video today, should probably have spaced these out and uploaded it later in the week but hey ho, wanted to move on to other stuff I’ve been working on! This one is on making ambient textures using convolution.

…and today’s effort is another ambient drone piece from when I made a tutorial on this. Nothing new but thought I may as well upload it.

That’s a beauty, well done!

Thanks Lars, really appreciate your comments! I enjoy making ambient drone, but don’t want to upload too many similar pieces so the next video will be something completely different

Here’s a quick and slightly rough thing with the new Pluck module.

Thanks! I have loads more ideas, just takes ages making videos. I need to keep the guitar effects series going too, I’ve branched out into more general sound design tutorials recently, but the guitar into VCV thing is still a slight obsession.

Having been experimenting with Anuli all week, seemed rude not to knock out a quick video with guitar. This uses the reverb string, with guitar patched into the external audio input and a full 16 channels of polyphony.
