This is an absolutely wonderful addition to VCV Rack! I will make a donation at some point.
I wonder if it would be possible to add some additional multichannel/polyphonic audio features? It’s already possible to patch in a polyphonic cable into a single audio channel and all the polyphony channels are audible, which is nice. But some additional ideas :
Stereo width/spread control for the polyphonic signals.
Allow the polyphonic signal to optionally arrive as polyphonic at the master/group/aux outputs too (useful for multispeaker surround sound). At the moment it appears that the polyphonic signals are mixed into mono at the channel input.
Yes, there is something somewhat similar, but it doesn’t work the same way as in Console. In MixMaster you have to activate the option “Mute tracks when soloing aux returns”, and then you can use the solo buttons on the aux returns (press the ones you want to hear), and then you will hear only the aux return without the actual track’s audio content.
The menu items are key. So much happening there. And they’re context sensitive in that channel menus will have different options than the master for example.
Hey @Eurikon, really awesome stuff, I was trying to make my own MindMeld Mixer template patch when I saw this one coming by. I downloaded the patch and played around with it, I just noticed I keep needing to replace the Audio8 module because it is asking a lot of CPU (which gets cut at least in half when I replace it with a fresh Audio8 module, initializing doesn’t do the trick).
Any idea how this may have come about? Could it have to do with the missing blanks or differently colored Audio8 module?
Hi Deev, missing blanks, cable colors. These should not matter.
Replacing Audio Core with a fresh instance, reproducing less CPU usage, is a bit odd.
What is known though, is that you need to use the Audio Core (building the patch).
So that it displays the right cpu value that is been used.
Are you reading the CPU usage correctly?
It works a bit contrary of what you might expect.
If I’m not mistaken the less the Audio Core is used, the reading will be showing you what is left over.
Just want to say thanks again. The more I use this, I become even more impressed than I originally was. It’s like you guys really thought of everything (moving tracks, per channel input gain trim, filters, inserts, channel linking…). This is better than the consoles in some DAWs I’ve used.
Not sure a 4 channel version is really in scope for this mixer. There are already plenty of 4 channel mixers that work well for submixing (you can use the Chain input rather than a track for that btw). We might consider an 8 channel version but again there are already some good 8 channel mixers in VCV. Foremost on our minds though is VCV Console - a commercial plugin the sales of which help support the VCV platform itself - we would need to think very carefully before coming out with an 8 channel version of our mixer that would directly compete with it (and be free…). Right now we are focussed on producing some other modules which break new ground.
