Hello everyone, I’m trying to emulate a Microtonic Kick Drum on VCV with stock modules, but I can’t get a deep hard kick, like the ones Microtonic has. Any clues? I tried With Bitwig and the result is much closer. It’s like Bitwig sine oscillator has more depth than the VCV’s. Thanks!
a drum kick in a modular environment is achievable in 1000 ways, here you have your 1001st
if you are not happy with that try using your ears and analyzers and layer more sounds
otherwise there are specific modules like the VST you linked
It helps a lot if you have an oscillator that lets you control and reset the phase, so you can have a consistent sound.
Bogaudio Sine is a good start - patch the trigger into the reset and play around with the phase until it sits right. It can sometimes produce some slight squishy aliasing sounds, though… a higher quality option would be the Venom VCO Lab or the upcoming Venom VCO Unit.
Then it’s good to have envelopes that let you control the curve - NYSTHI AD or Audible Instruments Segment Generator are great for that, MindMeld Shapemaster if you really want to go into detail.
And then maybe some Saturation from some Distortion or overdriven Filter to fatten it up.
maybe this selection get’s you started? →

just a question, why do you want to use fundamental modules?
As there are Befaco Kickall and Vults Trummor2
and some samplebased modules with usefull kickksounds for free in the library.
Thank you for the link, it’s very helpful.
Hi, Thank you for your reply, Playing with the phase and synching it did make a difference. Envelopes also make a big difference. Thanks a lot.
Hi, This was just an exercise. I’m learning and experimenting. Thanks
