I've had my headphones on wrong for two years.

I’m just sharing this for fun. I noticed during development of the Groovebox Advanced that the panning feature seemed reversed. But after some digging, I noticed that ALL audio coming from my computer had the stereo pan reversed.

I spent hours looking into it. I contacted Focusrite support, thinking it might be a problem with my audio interface. I had Claude Code chew through my system looking for virtual audio mixers:

“Failed treatments to date: Beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, adrenalin injections, high dose ibuprofen, steroids, Trager Mentastics, violent exercise, cafergot suppositories, caffeine, acupuncture, marijuana, Percodan, Midrine, Tenormin, Sansert, homeopathics. No results. No results…”

Then, I gently lifted my headset from my head, and looked at the actual “L” and “R” symbols, and sure enough, I’ve been wearing them backwards for two years. Since 2024.

I do realize that this might cast me as a bit dull. But hear me out. Here are the headphones listed on Amazon:

That microphone arm is not removable. You can’t move it to the other ear. This is the same image that’s in their user manual. Luckily, the mic arm does rotate, so you can rotate it to face the other direction and solve the problem.

The issue is… see that little white marker? It indicates the LEFT channel.

The right channel is marked in red.

So… in all of the product shots, they have it backwards. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Can you imagine watching two years of television and videos on your computer and not realizing that the audio stereo was reversed? What does that do to your biology?

I was supposed to be left handed, but my mother continually moved the spoon from my left hand to my right hand. I have a left-hand “hook” when writing with my right hand.

Anyhow, just sharing.
