Is the sine OSC dirty?

Hi folks,

Brand new VCV free user here, literally like 15 minutes!

Quick question: am i right in thinking that the OSC sine wave is actually really dirty with loads of harmonics? Kinda like some analog OSCs?

Because i’m going a bit nuts over here trying to work out if i’m somehow overloading or feeding back in my signal chain somewhere!

But i don’t think so, as changing the level inside VCV doesn’t effect the harmonics, but if i put a filter on it, i can kill the harmonics.

No big deal, i just wanna know if it’s supposed to be like this?!

Thanks!

Check here: VCO sine wave lots of upper harmonic content.

In short, yes, it emulates analog oscillator.

In short, no. It isn’t a pure sine, but the amount of harmonics is pretty small. Nothing like most waveforms. There are plenty of vcos you can use that have a pure sine, if that’s what you want/need.

Ah-ha, thanks all!

Unless I’m wrong the WT VCO from VCV has a pure sine

yes, that’s what I mean. Not that much harmonics. my “basic vco” has a clean sin, and then an option of an ultra clean one: VCV Library - Squinky Labs Basic VCO

Here’s a comparison of a few clean sines. Boguadio OP, Basic VCO sine, Basic VCO pure sine. Note that the vertical scale is 120 db here.
