Spice Factory is a wave splicing triple oscillator inspired by the Future Sound Systems OSC2 Recombination Engine. I have attempted to replicate the core features of the Recombination Engine in digital form, and then added a bunch of features not found in the hardware.
Watch this wonderful Omri Cohen video for an introduction to Spice Factory with example sounds and techniques.
I also encourage you to watch this DivKid video about the Future Sound Systems Recombination Engine for more ideas and techniques. Since Spice Factory replicates the core features (albeit renamed), all the techniques he demonstrates should be applicable.
I want to thank Finlay from Future Sound Systems for generously giving his blessing to this project. However, this is not a clone, and Future Sound Systems played no part in the development or testing of this module.
Spice Factory is the second module in the Venom Oscillations plugin. The first was Sofia’s Daughter. Each oscillator can be purchased individually for $15, or you can purchase the full plugin at a discounted price. The list price for Venom Oscillations is $25, but for a limited time you can purchase the plugin for $20. The discount will expire when the VCV Black Friday sale ends.
Note that existing owners of Venom Oscillations receive Spice Factory for free!
Superb. The hardware is a gem and I am agog with the possibilities of having related capabilities in Rack. Absolutely wonderful news. Congratulations and gratitude!
Excellent work as always @DaveVenom ! Chef’s kiss on Spice Factory. Polyphonic modulations take it to next level. Is there a Venom ADSR planned for the future to make the set complete?
One question I have about the Slice Octave knobs’ behaviour: it seems odd but I can’t dial up or down the octaves with the mouse in any way unless I use shift. Is this correct? I mean, it works fine using a keyboard (manual entry) but not using the mouse, it won’t “budge” unless I press shift. Double clicking with the mouse resets the OCT knobs as expected. All the rest of the knobs work as expected with the mouse. Just for your info. Regards
Absolutely. Probably 1st or 2nd quarter of next year. I talk briefly about it in my development blog.
No, it works fine for me on both Windows and Mac. But it only has 5 positions that snap, so it takes a good bit of mouse “throw” to get it to move. If you have turned down the sensitivity of your mouse at the operating system level, then I suppose that could interfere.
No, it will be more like M.I. Stages, but hopefully more intuitive to use.
I don’t know why, but wave tables and the like leave me cold. I know they are extremely powerful and popular, and I like what others do with them. But they just don’t interest me.
Either way, this discussion is better suited to my development blog
