I was thinking about a module that records cv (i.e. notes from a keyboard, so with cv and gate input) and storage it in a buffer, ready to be released step-by-step on the cv and gate outputs from a different trigger, step-by-step. a kind of n-to-64 steps sample&hold/sequencer. do we already have something similar in VCV Rack?
yes, this one, very good:
and you can do monophonic step recording with the impromptu sequencers, for example.
Try taking a look at my module Sapphire Elastika. Elastika is a numeric simulation of a physical model that includes point masses and elastic connectors. Omri Cohen did a quick demo video showing how it can be used to create metallic-sounding percussion:
That question is kind of non-sensical. Yes, there are many modules that do physical modeling. But Chimera does not do physical modeling - it is a granular synth module. So are you more interested in the sounds? or the process of physical modeling?
Sounds, bro. Sounds! I have enough struggle learning to make music with modules. I rely on you geniuses to figure out how to make them. And thank you!
Also it occurred to me after posting that perhaps the Elements clone can make cymbal-ish patches.
Thanks Don and Omri. Amazing stuff.
I agree it would be awesome if we had something for cymbals. I haven’t used chimera but there’s a free vst called exc!te cymbal I like and even something like that would be nice.
In the meanwhile, you can get some decent cymbal/gong sounds out of noise plethora. Try picking two different sounds from bank 2 for algorithm a and b and mixing those together giving one a slower attack than the other. Fiddle with the xa/ya/xb/yb knobs – there is a lot of variation with small changes to those – plus filter type and cutoff.
Thanks good call. I will try Noise Plethora again. It has always looked like a good time, but I have yet to figure out how to make it work for me in any predictable way.
I find it works a little better with triggers instead of gates. Play around with different combinations of filters and envelope settings and of course send it through some plateau.
Awesome thanks broheim. I read your last eight words in Omri’s voice.
they both work, thank you
